If all tourists went on strike for one month and refused to visit the island the authorities would be crying in their overpriced soup!

We want tourists to come to Cyprus.

We just don't want the stinking Brits that vomit on our sidewalks.

No not at all.

Tourism offers absolutely nothing to our highly educated and driven youth.

What do you think helps to pay for their education? - Tourism - indirectly

Rule Britannia ......

Disregarding all the statistics about what a great asset the 'Brits' are to Cyprus, does it even occur to you that the troubles here were initially instigated by the scum that still pervades these hallowed shores ?.

Your ultimate quotation of 'Rule Britannia', just about sums you up nicely, a turncoat who has the audacity to consider himself a Cypriot.

Don't make me laugh old man, you have spent the greater part of your miserable life in the camp of your country's enemies, all your sycophantic murmurings cannot erase the fact that you are a 'Brit'.

The likes of you should keep away from my country, you are a disgrace to both the U.K. and Cyprus, for a man who seeks to be a friend to both sides of ANY situation, MUST ( by virtue of his lack of courage to take a stand) become an enemy to each party.

Even an honourable Turk (if there be such a thing) would be preferable to one who seeks to pander (as you have done) to the whim of those that one considers to be in the ascendancy (at the time).

Great Britain IS NOT MY country's enemy anymore than Germany is the enemy of Britain , France and the entire world .
Your country ??? Are you suggesting that unless one shares your utterly depraved views on most issues concerning Cyprus one is therefore a disgrace to his country of birth.
Are you aware that Britain is the home of more than 300 thousand Cypriots who do not consider it to be their enemy ? May I ask the reasons of your intense hatred of Britain , is it perhaps that you are hiding something so sinister that compels you to be so ostentatiously anti Britain , and may I also say anti common sense anti Cyprus too.
This island is no longer the playing field that once was of the misfits the extremists the so called "patriots" who ultimately invited the Turkish invasion , it is a modern European island and full of Miltiadeses ready to stick their fingers up and defend the right of the future generation to a peaceful existence on our island.
May I finish by , once again , saying what a load of rubbish you post , just look at this "" for a man who seeks to be a friend to both sides of ANY situation, MUST ( by virtue of his lack of courage to take a stand) become an enemy to each party.""
What absolute garbage , are peacemakers less courageous than rubble rousers ?

Miltiades, you are undoubtedly a great ambassador for the nation that is responsible for the ultimate downfall of Cyprus, a rarity among genuine Cypriots since you constantly advocate the advantages of being allied to the arch enemies of civilisation (The USA and ISRAEL) whilst attempting to qualify your OWN entitlement to be considered a Cypriot.

Those many thousands of genuine Cypriots (which you regularly refer to when faced with disapproval) were obliged to flee the island due to the surge and wake of the Turkish invasion, a traumatic experience indeed for the helpless victims of a prearranged atrocity instigated by your chosen allies.

YOU, are a 'Brit' Miltiades, through and through, no amount of fawning and wriggling can now, or will ever, erase the fact that you fled the country when the going got a little tough years PRIOR to the said invasion.

It would not surprise me to learn that YOU were actively involved in the invasion, such is your admiration for those nations that instigated it.

Pipe down Miltiades, you have blown your cover on several occasions in the past, you are an unfit spokesperson for those who have really suffered and look for a just solution to the problems created by your chosen allies.

Any Cypriot I know (and they are legion) maintain the dignity of their heritage, they are no fans of Western aggressors/oppressors and stood their ground as best they could in troubled times.

Why not content yourself with the fact that you are a 'Brit' and leave the resolution of the problems and the pursuit of just restitution and reparation to those who are entitled to it.

On the plus side, as a 'Brit', you may ally yourself to anybody, the culture of the 'Brits' is such that it practices and preaches a degree of sub-standard moral and ethical conduct that is recognised and despised throughout the civilised world, you should be quite at home among such standards. IMHO.

Very eloquently put if I may say so.

Britain has been the caused all of our troubles as you well know.

Even the Americans acknowledge that the British instigated a campaign of Divide and Rule against the Cypriot Nation.

A British colonial strategy was to keep the Greek Cypriot majority and Turkish Cypriot minority of the island separate and discourage intermingling. The British hoped and succeeded to strengthen their hold on this strategically important colony. [7]

http://www.statemaster.com/encyclopedia ... ule#Cyprus

They did their very best to prevent Cypriot self determination in the 50s, employed TC Auxiliary Police causing the first inter-communal clashes in 1958. The seeds of division were already sown. Furthermore, the Zurich Agreements imposed on Cyprus a most ridiculous and absurd constitution, which gave us a nation that was unworkable. They are solely responsible for the calamities Cyprus faced throughout the 60s and the final coup de grace in 1974.

If Miltiades is such a big supporter of Americans, then perhaps he will do well to read the above link, which is an American source, acknowledging British involvement in the destruction of Cyprus.

Furthermore, Miltiades postings are nothing more than non serious ramblings from the village fool. He will just come back and insult your good mannered self and call you a Plonker about 5 times in a single post...

Jerry wrote:Here are some figures for you to chew on:-

Tourism occupies a dominant position in the economy of Cyprus.[1]
· In 2006 it was expected to contribute 10.7% of GDP.
· in real terms it generated CYP£2,598.2 mn (US$5,445.0 mn) (annual-2006).
· total employment was estimated at 113,000 jobs (29.7% of total employment = 1 in every 3.4 jobs).

GDP US$21.382 Billion (As of 2007)

Source Wikepedia

I have highlighted the earnings for GDP and tourist income for different years (2006 and 2007) but even on these figure tourism is 25% of GDP and this figure will be higher if shown as a percentage of overseas earnings

If Cyprus wants to attract better tourists it needs better resorts first.

It’s very strange that Milti and Jerry decided to quote the Wiki with its 2006 figures and erroneous information that tourism has the number 1 income earning spot in Cyprus, when I posted the most reliable and up to date source yesterday, namely the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CYSTAT) where we found…

Year..........Arrivals..........Revenue......Spend p/person
-------------------------------------------------------------------
2006........2,400,924.......1,755.3..........€731
2007........2,416,081…....1,858.1…......€769
2008........2,403,750…....1,792.8..........€745

http://www.mof.gov.cy/mof/cystat/statis ... t&sub=2&e=

If Tourism amounts to only 10-12% of the country's GDP, then how can it possibly be the #1 income earner?
