For us to get a taxi to Pissouri from the airport, then a taxi back to the airport, is more expensive than hiring a car for a week - bloody crazy!

so why don't you hire a car? :?

Secondly, fewer tourists mean fewer 'foreigners' buying property and thus the developer/estate agent/furniture/electrical goods sectors are damaged. Again, this is very significant for Pafos, because tourism and property have become the lifeblood of the area over the last five years.

When all these people are thrown out of work - then every shop and service supplier is hit because, people have no money.

So, laugh away in Nicosia, but spare a thought for those enduring real suffering in other parts of Cyprus. If you think that Cyprus and, more importantly, Cypriots are not being affected badly by what is happening, walk carefully - or you may fall over with your eyes shut.

Let Paphos disintegrate, let it destroy itself. It'll be for the best in the long run.

Its all part of my master plan (to be unveiled once I have regained control of the govt). Ayian Napa and Paphos took a wrong turning and both places need to be reset-ed.

Ayia Napa needs to be a centre dedicated to quality fisheries which are n high demand right now. An industry of fishing/packaging/exporting Tuna's and other similar fish in high demand and fast running out. Some of the largest companies in the world right now are Spanish tuna fishing/farming specialists. The Japanese market solely is enough to absorb any supply.

Paphos needs to be transformed to the ecological power plant of Cyprus and concentrate on high quality/ high end tourists in 6 star resorts with naturist backdrops.

Wind farms/solar power/hydro and other alternative energy resources could be developed and implemented in Paphos with the new sleek corporations based there exporting the technology in the same fashion that Israel has.

The nature parks could be expanded and environmental/luxury tourism should be explored taking advantage of the waters/turtles/scenery and overall beauty of the region.

Just looked at a few sites for taxi prices.

Did you know it's cheaper to get to Occupied Kyrenia by taxi from LCA than to Paphos? ... and Pissouri is very slightly cheaper than Ky.

Tourism occupies a dominant position in the economy of Cyprus.[1]

* In 2006 it was expected to contribute 10.7% of GDP.
* in real terms it generated CYP£2,598.2 mn (US$5,445.0 mn) (annual-2006).
* total employment was estimated at 113,000 jobs (29.7% of total employment = 1 in every 3.4 jobs).

This plonker dismisses tourism that employs , according to official RoC figures 113,000 people , 1 out of every 3.4 of total employed !!! 5 AND A HALF BILLION DOLLARS , mere pittance according to IGAROS !!!

The employment figures mentioned therein, include airline staff, hotel staff, as well as every single souvenir shop in Cyprus. If Brit Tourist numbers suddenly dropped, then it will only translate into a mediocre decline in employment.

Cyprus is much better off developing new industries which will offer Cypriots much more fulfilling careers than working behind bars.

Tourism is a very insignificant contributor to GDP output.

British Tourism is also very poor when compared to Greek, German and Scandinavian tourists, who stay longer and spend more than the average Brit tourist, who is only looking to party at various Ayia Napa rave parties and end up in the gutter.

If Cyprus wants tourists, then they should explore Scandinavian, German and Greek markets more.

The standard of Cypriot tourism is a disgrace. And the Brits are the main culprit.

BTW....Today, tourism industry only accounts for 7% of GDP output and is still declining.

You obviously live in a different World and wear rose tinted glasses!

I agree with certain parts here but the remaining parts are load of tripe. Yes, Cyprus should not put all its eggs into on basket but they appear to have done this - look at the earlier posts from Milti. The overall numbers are down.

Cyprus tourism is a disgrace and the Brits are the main culprits - please explain?

If Cyprus can move away from being a tourist destination what else has it to offer? If ALL tourists stopped coming YOU would even be effected.

Banking and Commerce, shipping, and various service industries which are far more important than tourism.

And the final blow to tourism will occur when Cyprus begins producing Oil and Gas.

Cyprus could also look at new industries to employ our highly educated and ambitious people.

Why I have a fear that, when Cyprus begins to produce oil, will dissapear from the map?

Cyprus could also look at new industries to employ our highly educated and ambitious people. Go on?

You haven't explained why the poor Cyprus tourism is the Brits fault.

How much Oil and Gas will it supply and how long for?

Banking and Commerce - explain?

What about all the hotels, car hire, restaurants, bars, airport/airlines, rip off taxi firms and shops - if tourism dried up where would these people work? In the Bank, Shipping, Gas I don't think so?

On the back of tourism is property purchase - which employs 10,000's.

Do me one thing, and not vote in the Elections!
