there is a pattiserie near harrods called valerie, the cheesecake is £5 but its not very nice at all. In my opinion none of their cakes are. You cant beat cypriot baklava and gadaifi and borekia.... my mouth is watering...oh and that custard filled cypriot pastry!

from what I recall, a slice of cheesecake would cost 5 quid in some places in the UK

For a whole cake in Sainsburys yes!

But how much in a Costa Lot Coffee shop for example?

This is the only civilization created by Turks in Cyprus (swits) - even they copied from Greeks of Asia Minor , they brought them to Cyprus.

Well prices are sometimes related to people habits.
I was always angree about the coffee/tea price in some places in Athens (coffee Euro 4-5 tea 3-4) until a freind owing a coffe shop explained to me that an Italian paying the coffee at Euro 1.5 however either do not use a chair or he is leaving in maximum 30 mnts. In Greece -I assume also in Cyprus - someone ordering a coffee and stay in place for half a day!!!!

Let's talk sweet pastries. I always thought Baklava and Kataifi came from the Lebannon or Egypt.

To get back to Pafos and the high cost of the coffee and cakes my friends paid there.

Perhaps someone else has noticed or has there been more complaints?

Another little scam these places are up to now is putting a price in £?? along with the €?? price. No mention of the £ Cypriot which is no more, neither is dual pricing needed but to the unwary tourist it looks like a £GB to Euro conversion price or Euro to £GB.
