Cyprus, Goodbye we won't be back

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

I have just had one week's holiday in Riva, Lake Garda - one of the wealthiest regions of Italy. It does not give me much pleasure to say this but what we saw and experienced there makes Cyprus as a holiday destination very second rate. We stayed in a 4* hotel for one week B&B £349 including flights from our local airport. With regard to the prices in the first post we actually had similar (top quality strawberry cake and decent cappaccino) for 5 euros each in a very well run ice cream parlour in the tourist centre of town. The going rate for a coffee seemed to be 2 euros everywhere. The going rate for a good quality meal was 20 - 30 euros per person including drink although snacks with chips or real pizzas started at about 5 euros in tourist areas. What really impressed me, however, was the cleanliness of the place with no litter to be seen apart from a few dog-ends near smoking zones. If any one in the catering trade in Cyprus or even the CTO want to improve tourism on the island then I would recommend a holiday to the Italian Lakes would be a real eye opener - they do have quality tourism there and they do not have to rip people off to make a living.

Garda and Como have always been classic holiday destinations but their focus has always been on the better end of the market. I like the sound of smoking zones !

The Forum Elite (or is that Forum Elitists?) may wish to come to afternoon tea here in London at the Palm Court at The Ritz....

Typical price for a mug of tea with a sarnie and a scone with cream and jam .... £GB 40 each.

You do get a chap on the piano for that.

They do say that everyone should do it once in their lives....pollocks to that.

(er...no blokes in shorts, socks and sandals.)
