RESORATION PROCESS WILL START SOON AT APOSTOLOS ANDREAS MONESTARY

TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat has said that the restoration work at the Apostolos Andres Monastery will start soon.

President Talat made the comments during a visit to the area where he also informed villagers of Dipkarpaz, Yenierenkoy and Ziyamet area of the progress taking place at the Cyprus talks.

Speaking with the villagers of the Dipkarpaz Area, the President said that restoration work of the Apostolos Andreas Monastery had not taken place due to disagreements between the Greek Cypriot administration and the Greek Cypriot Orthodox Church.

‘In some Greek Cypriot papers they claimed that the Turkish Cypriot side had prevented restoration work from beginning. This is not true we only wanted a few months so we could move the people who are living in the area so they don’t get disrupted by the work that will be taking place.

That’s the actual real reason behind my visit’, said President Talat.

referring to the latest development that have taken place on the Cyprus issue, President Talat said ‘if we can begin the give and take period as of the end of summer, then we will get good results’.

He also expressed his view that it would be better for the solution plan of the Cyprus issue to be put to a referendum before the end of his term in office.

‘Who ever started the process should finish it. We are progressing at the speed we desired at the negotiations’, added Talat.

Referring to the issue of opening a border crossing at the Yesilirmak village President Talat noted that from the very beginning the Turkish Cypriot side had been asking for 2 things.

‘Firstly we asked for the free movement to and from Erenkoy and secondly for the free movement of fuel to the area. These issues are still continuing to be discussed’, he added.

ROC President Dimitris Hristofias has expressed the hope that a solution will be found to the Cyprus problem before President Talat’s time in office is over.

Speaking during his stay in London, the Greek Cypriot leader gave his views regarding the Cyprus negotiations process.

Noting that the negotiations process has found its basis, the Greek Cypriot leader said ‘for a united Cyprus to find its place on this basis, a lot more work needs to be done’.

Explaining that there were still a lot of topics that needed to be solved for example property, the setting up of a new government and EU issues, Mr. Hristofias said ‘during first president Rauf Denktas’s period, Greek Cypriot property was seized and given to Turkish people, therefore we must overcome the problems in the property issue before a solution is found’.
He said ‘if we don’t there wont be a stable solution, actually there will be no solution’.

Referring to the Orams case, Hristofias said for the property issue to be overcome, human rights, international and European agreements must be kept in mind.

Noting that very logical and practical formulas had been brought to the negotiations table, Mr. Hristofias said ‘in Cyprus there is a single nation made up of Turkish and Greek Cypriots. These two communities have sovereign rights over the island. We will share all of our administrations power in a Federal United Cyprus Republic.

Explaining that both sides had different understandings regarding a bizonal, bicommunal federal government in Cyprus the Greek Cypriot leader said ‘the solution is not one that foresees two separate states but a united Cyprus.’

Claiming that some circles were still trying to propose two separate states and two separate representations at the negotiations table, ‘this is not an option’ said Hristofias adding ‘the Turkish side knows this. Europe is not joking. It wants a united country with a united economy. The island is small and they don’t want two separate states’.

Mentioning that the issue of land and security had not yet been taken up during the Cyprus negotiations process, Hristofias said ‘Turkey is acting very dogmatic on this issue. It is claiming that it sees this issue as its red lines, so these are very difficult subjects ones that need to be handled very carefully’.

We don't need any excuse to want legality and our rights. What is your excuse to be a criminal?

Why does this artlicle not say that the free flow of fuel is meant for an army base in Kokkina?
