You mean like all those Brits who bought in good faith in the south who are now finding that due to corrupt lawyers and developers they are now very much in danger of losing their homes?

at least the property buyers on the south will eventually get there deeds & will not be taken to court for buying on stolen lands!!!

not long till they all get there just deserts!!!! :)

I disagree with you there. Look at any Turkish Cypriot daily newspaper and turn to the property for sale section and you will see that plenty of them are advertised as having Turkish title. There is nothing illigitimate or illegal about such sales.

sorry tim but i doubt very much they are legitimate!

Sorry, anna-sh, but if the legitimate pre-1974 owner of a property wishes to put it up for sale, he or she is quite entitled to do so, and such sale is perfectly legitimate. The same applies if the seller is the legal heir or has duly acquired the property from its legitmate pre-1974 owner.

In fact, you will find that Turkish Cypriots are generally only interested in acquiring property that has legitimate Turkish Cypriot title deeds, and such properties trade at a considerable premium to those with "exchange title", that have no legitimacy under international law.

there is a few turkish title properties around.
the trouble is those who purchased the exchange land (so called) have been telling everyone not to buy pre 74 turkish title as the gov are not giving ptp on them.
as far as i am aware this is total rubbish.

Lets be honest any Brit going to the North will purchase stolen land. They will get brain washed into purchasing and will be advised everything is ok with the deeds.

PLUS every bit of land Pre-74 comes at a price - so why no just buy in ROC

I agree with you there. Sales to foreigners in the north are mainly of dodgy title properties, not legitimate pre-1974 title. Local people are very well aware of the distinction, whereas foreign buyers have been kept in the dark. This has been done for political as well as economic motives. The hope was, I think, that after such property had been sold to Western Europeans, their governments would support them in their claims to that property and the Cyprus issue would take on a new foreign dimension. This tactic does not appear to have worked.

Kept in the dark?

If you are old enough to own a house (and a second home at that) then you are "wise" enough to check what you are "buying"!

Not necessarily ... This is what they said:

Hi all, do the same cautions apply if I can find somewhere with a Pre 1974 Turkish title?

The giveaway is in the "if" ....

Do you not think that most of the 'I am looking to buy a property in 'north (sic) Cyprus', on Cy44 are entirely fictional?

There has been an outbreak of them since recent Oram events.

I fear that such a concept would be so far over Z4's head he'd have to climb up a ladder to reach it...
