Good humorously teasing each other about their little idiosyncrasies. Counting their blessings etc etc etc. To the point where I think Mr Obama has gone a little soft and is forgetting his day-job ...

Or am I being a little harsh? :?

The outward image of US presidents and their families to be viewed by the public are always choreographed and manufactured!

It's been a long time since I've had the temerity to post on one of your threads GR! :D Thank you for being gentle with me. My knees have now stopped trembling ....

Maybe I'll venture an opinion soon :?

Nation Building my back side. Who remembers 'Fahrenheit 9-11' when it stated that the Bush administration was doing deals with the Taliban regarding exporting natural gas from the country. Do the maths. Iraq=Oil, Afghanistan=gas. Hmmmm the Afghans will never be defeated.

Do you think I'm ready to say something O, or is it simply a step too far?

:? You seem to have a habit of jumping to all sorts of ridiculous conclusions… just DON'T because it's boring.

American imperialism comes in the form of the installation of puppet governments, the erection of military bases, the manipulation of UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, financial aid blackmails, and much, much more.

Are you implying that the US has “fixed” problems in these countries and they are now hunky dory?
No, what I am suggesting that for whenever America has invaded, America has not sought to rule over them or turn them into American states.

Again...

Today, imperialism has gradually evolved into a more cost effective, more manageable, less hectic, and more self-serving “Art”, as perfectly executed by the US in many countries including ones you mention.

The US (and it's allies) won a legitimate military war against the Taliban and as yes they did put in their prefered government (you call it puppet) and have every right to put conditions of aid (you call it blackmail).

This is what normally happens after a major military victory.

The only mistake the Americans made was not to implement this after the first Gulf war and kept Saddam in power. Had they got rid of him back then, the oil for food sanctions would never have been the disaster it was and Iraq would have been all the better for it today.

They did it in Germany and Japan. Are they run by puppet governments today? No. Are there American bases in these countries? Yes. Are American troops patrolling these countries? No.

History has shown that this is and without exception temporary.

The Afghans where given a real chance this week to vote out the so called puppet government, and had the Taliban not intimidated the Afghans into not voting then the American would have probably been out within the year.

The reason I know this is temporary is because there are no other countires where America is proping up a puppet government.

Look, the essence of your initial argument was…

The United States is not imperialistic as its territory has not increased in the last 100 or so years.

So what exacly is your point?

What authority does America have on say Japan, Germany and Serbia on their economies and politics when all these contries are free to change them if they are not happy with them?

So even on both counts, Americas influence after a major military victory has always proven to be temporary.

He'd rather they were like Russian puppet Castro's Cuba stuck in a financial backwater whilst most around them prosper.

For someone associated with a nation whose only natural resouce is olive oil and the potato, I am surprised you have a problem with this as it is in Cyprus' interest that energy is secured.

Cyprus does not even have enough water for its population let alone gas and oil, all of which must be imported.

Lets hope the oil exploration off Cyprus comes to some fruition - but not even that is going to last for ever.

How can you say that the Afghans will never be defeated, when the Taliban has ripped out the very soul of this nation - they had been defeated from within.

Me Ed , over the years I challenged GR's Americanphobia on numerous occasions.
The guy is inflicted with a decease commonly known amongst Greek losers as AMERICANIKODACHTILOSIS . Everything American GR finds repugnant , he adores Bin Laden and his terrorist organization Al Qaeda , if Cyprus was full of GRs I would be an extremely unhappy man , however I'm pleased to note that many Cypriots appear to recognize the efforts of the Cypriot lobby in the USA as well as the fact that although a tremendous amount of pressure has been put on America by a very important ally , Turkey , America has refused to give in and recognize the "trnc"
Many Cypriots blame America for all of our problems. The fact that the bloody extremists encouraged by the Greek Junta were ENTIRELY responsible for our inviting Turkey to invade in 1974 doesn't enter into their logic.
The pathological hatred as exhibited by this Plonker GR is shared by many of our compatriots .
