Officials: Photos Show US Soldiers Posing With Slain Afghan Civilians

The military has seized a collection of dozens of photographs related to the criminal killings of Afghan civilians by a number of US soldiers, but are trying to keep the photographs secret, withholding them even from the soldiers’ legal defense teams for fears of their publication.

The photos are being described as “grisly” by those familiar with them, and military spokeswoman Maj. Kathleen Turner says the images are “highly sensitive.” The photos are said to show soldiers posing beside recently slain civilians, and mutilated corpses.

US fun killer linked to Iraq murders

A US soldier already facing murder charges for allegedly killing Afghan civilians is also linked to the 2004 deaths of several unarmed Iraqi civilians.

The US Army is re-examining a 2004 incident in which Staff Sgt. Calvin R. Gibbs and other soldiers in his unit allegedly fired on an unarmed Iraqi family passing by in a car, killing two adults and a child, the Washington Post reported on Thursday.

During Army interrogations in May, a special agent for the US Army's Criminal Investigations Command reported that a tattoo was found on the soldier's left calf depicting a crossed pair of pistols, framed by six skulls.

The tattoo was "his way of keeping count of the kills he had," according to the Army report. Three of the skulls, red, represented the number of those killed in Iraq, Gibbs told the agent; the others, in blue, were from Afghanistan.

I condemn all violence , that includes the killing of innocent bystanders going about their daily chores . Iraq today would have been a peaceful nation affording adequate security to its citizens who would now be free of the treat posed by the ex dictator and his cronies. The Americans do not want to stay in Iraq one day longer than necessary but the job at hand must be completed , alas the savages are not instrumental in bringing about a fast withdrawal of all foreign troops. I do not condemn the action taken by the USA .

NATO Kills Afghan Children in Several Incidents

NATO is scrambling to do damage control tonight after a number of weekend incidents led to the deaths of Afghan civilians, including several children. US troops killed two civilians, including an eight year old girl in a shooting in Logar Province, while NATO air strikes in the Helmand Province killed another three civilians and wounded a number of children. NATO troops also shot and killed a child in Kandahar Province.

All told 13 civilians were killed over the weekend in a series of attacks by both NATO and Taliban forces. The US has formally apologized for the Logar killings, while NATO insists the Kandahar killings were because they thought a “suspected insurgent” was “perceived as about to fire a weapon.”
