UN official criticises US over drone attacks

The use of targeted killings with weapons like drone aircraft poses a growing challenge to the international rule of law, a UN official says.

Philip Alston said that the US in particular was doing damage to rules designed to protect the right of life.

Mr Alston, UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial killings, feared a "Playstation" mentality could develop.

America’s Complicity in Evil

Thus has Obama made America complicit once again in Israel’s barbaric war crimes.

Just as the US Congress voted to deep-six Judge Goldstone’s report on Israel’s war crimes committed in Israel’s January 2009 invasion of Gaza, Obama has deep-sixed Israel’s latest act of barbarism by pretending that he doesn’t know what has happened.

U.S. Identifies Vast Riches of Minerals in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON — The United States has discovered nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan, far beyond any previously known reserves and enough to fundamentally alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Afghan war itself, according to senior American government officials.

America leaves Iraq a toxic legacy of dumped hazardous materials

American troops going home from Iraq after seven painful years are leaving behind a legacy that is literally toxic.

An investigation by The Times in five Iraqi provinces has found that hazardous material from US bases is being dumped locally rather than sent back to America, in clear breach of Pentagon rules.

North and west of Baghdad, engine oil is leaking from 55-gallon drums into dusty ground, open acid canisters sit within easy reach of children, and discarded batteries lie close to irrigated farmland. A 2009 Pentagon document shown to The Times by a private contractor working with US soldiers mentions “an estimated 11 million pounds [5,000 tonnes] of hazardous waste” produced by American troops.

U.S. Fails to Complete, or Cuts Back, Iraqi Projects

Now, after more than six years of work, $104 million spent, and without having connected a single house, American reconstruction officials have decided to leave the troubled system only partly finished, infuriating many city residents.

The plant is just one of many projects that the United States has decided to scale back on — or in some cases abandon — as American troops who provide security for reconstruction sites prepare to leave in large numbers.

Obama Administration: Israel Has ‘Right’ to Nukes

A statement released yesterday by the Obama Administration has made public America’s long-standing support for the Israeli government’s large, undeclared nuclear arsenal, and insists that Israel has an inherent “right” to possess such an arsenal for “deterrence purposes.”

according to the non paliferation treaty only countries who had atomic weapons at the time of the treaty would be allowed to inrich urainium to weapons grade , they would only be able to create low grade for energy, hence the problem in iran, israel on the other hand have been doing it for years , because AMERICA LETS IT, one rule for one and one rule for another , the israelis have been using weapons of mass distruction on gaza for years, and america used them in iraq, And for those of you who are not sure what the definition of a weapon of mass distruction is,,, A weapon that carries on killing well after , for years, after the bang, Obama and bush ,and brair should all be tried for war crimes, but no matter what we feel this will never happen, the invasion of Iraq was illegal it did not have UN approval, but hey america calls the shots in this world ,but do not be under the illusion that obama runs america, he is just the puppet, and if he did not toe the american line he would go the same way as kennedy ,what is going on in the world at this moment stinks, and you turn on world news ,and all they talk about is some guy in the uk shots his girlfriend ,or jlo is appearing at some hotel, any thing that keeps the masses away from what is really happening in the world, , I do get pissed of some times.
