(DIP) TURKEY REJECTS COURT RULING ON CYPRUS PROPERTY CASE AS "ATTEMPT TO HURT" PEACE TALKS

ANKARA (A.A) - 15.05.2009 - Turkey rejected a decision by Europe's highest court for the return of land which remained in Turkish Cyprus after 1974 as "hurting" ongoing peace talks.
"Attempts to hurt the peace process in Cyprus by individual court decisions, such as the Orams case, are unacceptable," Turkish Foreign Ministry said Friday in a statement.

The ruling by the European Court of Justice ruled in favor of a Greek Cypriot, Meletis Apostolides, who sued in 2004 in a Greek Cyprus court for the return of land his family abandoned after Turkey's military intervention in 1974.

By that time, the property in a village in Turkish Cyprus had been bought by a British couple, Linda and David Orams.

"'Cyprus Republic' does not exist anymore as a partnership state which was founded in 1960, and the Greek Cypriots do not have any jurisdiction over Turkish Cypriots nor authority to represent the entire island," the statement said.

The heart of the Orams case was whether the decision given by a Greek court was applicable in the United Kingdom, referring to all other EU-member states.

The British High Court applied to the ECJ on the grounds that the final decision would affect all similar cases in the member states of the EU.

ECJ's ruling implied Greek Cypriot judiciary had also authority in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the decisions to be made by Greek Cypriot judiciary should be implemented in all EU countries. (İMB

LOL Turkey. Their soldiers still remaining in CY is hurting peace talks. They thought they were tough boys when they invaded in 74, the AngloAmericans were grinning with accomplishment in their well orchestrated and perfectly engineered masterplan. Now Cyprus remains the biggest thorn in Turkey's EU accession, and as for their AngloAmerican butt-buddies a neverending headache on their behalf trying to push the Turks into Europe through the back window. Karma is a bitch innit? lol

And yet they don't say HOW or WHY they "hurt" the peace talks, other than they may have lost some face!

Are they out of pocket over this? Were the sales of GC properties funding the Peace talks?

How does serving Justice impede these talks??

I don't suppose that Greece had anything to do with the 1974 events that led to the invasion ??
Angloamericans at fault here chaps 100% , the fact that we were chasing each other behaving like Latin American revolutionaries had again nothing to do with Turkey invading.
We fucked it up assisted and enticed by Greece , Turkey used our stupidity and obtained the green light to invade.

Was the Greek Junta and EOKA B backed by most of the citizens of Greece and Cyprus? No it wasnt. So why do you use the word 'we'??

The Greek government has tried to make positive steps in the reunification of the island and peace between the communities like government sponsored peace programmes for GC and TC youth.

Has Turkey ever even offered such a genuine gesture??

'The Greek people are anarchic and difficult to tame. For this reason we must strike deep into their cultural roots: perhaps then we can force them to conform. I mean, of course, to strike at their language, their religion, their cultural and historical reserves, so that we can neutralize their ability to develop, to distinguish themselves, or to prevail; thereby removing them as an obstacle to our strategically vital plans in the Balkans, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East.' - Henry 'the Jew' kissinger. National Security Advisor to the United States.

Kissinger had supported illegal financial and military aid to Turkey for the 1974 Cyprus invasion.

Who invited Anglo Americans to put Junta in power? Greeks of another planet? Anti-communist Greeks?
