Identifying the Enemies of Cyprus ...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Identifying the Enemies of Cyprus ...

Postby Oracle » Fri May 15, 2009 10:45 am

For clarification purposes, I have identified some common traits which I think are strongly suggestive of someone holding views which are destructive to Cyprus and hopes for re-unification ...

1. Using nomenclature such as 'North Cyprus' or 'South Cyprus' (plus variations intent on creating a myth of two countries).

2. Ignoring/preventing the right of administration of the RoC Government's laws and policies over the whole island.

3. Referring to chiefs of the TC leadership as "President" or "Prime Minister".

4. Describing EOKA as a 'terrorist' organisation.

Of course, there are a few more ....

Let's identify these destructive elements and eliminate them, towards gaining freedom, peace and unity .... :)
... I'm willing!

*** Expressions of negative emotions, justified by experience, are a consequence and not a cause of the present problems (which is Turkey) and would be eliminated when the right solution is implemented.

Using nomenclature such as 'Greek Cyprus' or 'Turkish Cyprus' and the 'Greeks' and 'Turks' of Cyprus is even worse.

And refering to "Cyprus Ethnicity" is building Cyprus grave.

Says the Athenian.... Don't worry, colonel, you can be buried in the Greek capital, with full military honours.

I completely agree. Those are useless terms. I only call myself Greek Cypriot because I happen to be, through birth. My mum is just Greek and my dad was just Cypriot. For years I couldn't understand why others called themselves Greek Cypriot when to me they were completely Cypriot.

So the fact that I am 100% Cypriot (politically) isn't represented by the label of 'Greek Cypriot' which for me is ethnocentric and loaded. What is required is to delineate people according to how they see themselves as Cypriots (politically) and shouldn't centre on genealogy. Rather, political identifiers akin to Tory or Whig could be substituted. Suggestions for Cyprus might be "Republican-Democrats" (where most GCs would probably subscribe) who are supporters of the RoC (and hence reunification), and the opposition would be, let's say,"Sectarians", I guess ....
So you can be an 'RD Cypriot' (e.g. you and I) or a 'Sec Cypriot' (e.g. insan and Bananiot).

I don't know. I really would like to put my finger on a few simple terms that define the two or three groups which people would fall into but which allow "GCs" or "TCs" to flow between without preconditions of attachments to Turkey or Greece.

More myths...

1. The isolation of the north is caused by the Republic of Cyprus;
2. The EU made 'promises' to Cypriots living in the north prior to the Annan Plan and 'let them down' after their 'YES' vote;
3. It was a mistake to let Cyprus into the EU until after a solution;
3. Land in the north 'used to' belong to refugees fleeing for their lives in 1974;
4. Turkey's EU accession process is a give-and-take negotation.

The Greeks of Cyprus call themselves this way not because Cyprus is or ever was part of Greek state. (mainland)- They call themselves such a way on simple reason Cyprus is and always was a Greek Island in relation to its citizens. It was and it is an idepedent state which happen to have Greek citizens. So simple.
