Heartwarming united Cypriot groups on Facebook…

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Zantedeschias are my favorite flowers in the whole world. Reminds me of my years growing up in Cyprus, and of my grandparents! I think it's perfect to represent a united Cyprus...it bares a resemblance to the flag too...

Very nice flowers and colours T_C.... but for the moment Cypriots need to display a bit more assertiveness, in my view. Enough of being the doormats of the world.

The olive branch approach has got us nowhere.

Cypriot, if the majority of GCs were a little more inclusive rather than exclusive when it comes to Cyprus I'd be a lot more assertive towards TCs.

I TOTALLY feel the GCs pain when it comes to their homes. I've been through a similar experience myself when certain individuals in my family had planned, and put up for sale my grandparents home without my consent! My grandparents weren't in a position to do it themselves before they died so they took these peoples word for it that the house (that I chose, and where they raised me in) would be left to me.

It didn't work out like that but fortunately I managed to get it back through threats of taking them to court because of the circumstances surrounding the situation.

So trust me, I've been in the position of GCs and I understand why nowhere but your own home will do.... :(

Saying that I do have a grudge against the RoC because there is a history of the GC government trying to deny us our country! My own family have lost their homes, and have been through a lot because of GCs too so I don't trust the RoC much, and for that reason I chose to sit on the fence. I'm not going to be assertive towards TCs when GCs are far from perfect themselves (and vice versa)...which is why I try to stay neutral most of the time...

Thanks T_C... well said. I don't doubt your ability to empathise. Empathy is such a valuable characteristic in a human being. Your grandparents should be very proud of you. What I wrote was in no way meant as a criticism of you.

And I'm not here to argue on behalf of or apologise for the 'G'C position, far from it.

I'm here to assert the Cypriot position and put forward a Cypriot perspective. And it's one that, by definition, is inclusive of all Cypriots who put Cyprus and all her people first.

I too share your wish that more Cypriots would be more inclusive to each other. We could start by finding ways other than GC and TC to describe ourselves so it's no longer a 'them' and 'us' situation. Partionists have always talked in terms of 'them' and 'us' – and for obvious reasons.

I was fortunate enough personally not to lose any land or property because of the on going troubles. And I refuse to lose my identity because them.

It has been always "them" and "us" since Ottomans. Even Christofias use the definitions "Greek Cypriots" and "Turkish Cypriots". Why this disturbes u that much? What's happened to Greeks, Cretans, Rhodesian of Turkish extract?

Cypriot..

Agreed! :)

I just want everyone to be happy. We all deserve a peace of mind without having to worry about what may happen in the future. I just hope this time the leaders manage to find a way round all the mistrust and give us a solution thats acceptable for us all...I'm counting on it...

Why does it disturb you so much that I don't talk about 'them' and 'us'?

It does not disturb me but I it is obvious that it disturbs u very much. U r free to define Cypriots how u wish... I just wondered why a well known fact, a reality accepted by masses disturb u that much...

Thank you very much, insan. And you can cross your fingers and hope more Cypriots don't join me, if you wish. For that would signal the end of partitionist dreams.

I've already explained why... them and us perpetuates division.

Is the earth flat insan? Is that a well known fact?

Because that's what the masses used to believe before a better reality was explained to them. One that made more sense.
