Nokia GPS Phones

Postby Sotos » Thu May 14, 2009 7:56 pm

Does anybody have a NOKIA phone with GPS build in? I am planning to buy a new phone soon and a build in GPS would be nice to have. But do they come with Cyprus Maps on them? Do you have to pay any subscription?

Hi there sotos, I use a 6210 navigator with nokia navigation 2.0 software, it uses NAVTEQ maps (for Navmans), in Australia you get 6 months free subscription after that you pay 100 AUD ( around 50 euro) a year to use it. The software does not lock up after 6 months it just seizes to give turn by turn directions. Older models use software called route 66 which although you never have to pay for, it never recalculates your route upon not following it's directions.

Thanks umit. Do you know if there are maps for Cyprus? And is the GPS on a mobile with such small screen usable? I have a separate GPS device but it has a much bigger touch screen. And can you use it with Google Maps Mobile?

I found the screen an issue at the start but got used to it. I wouldn't always try to use it as my primary gps device. Nokia Maps 2.0 does not have any maps for Cyprus.

I have heard of people downloading garmin maps for the device. My internet connection is very slow at the moment, try searching for stuff like "nokia s40 garmin" or "s40 maps", you might come up with something.

Hey Sotos,

I've been using the Nokia E-71 since getting rid of my iPhone. It has built in GPS and came with Nokia maps pre-installed, not sure if it has Cyprus maps but you do have to pay to have voice navigation on Nokia maps.

As Umit said you can install Garmin or any of the Tom-Tom softwares on Nokia phones so I'm sure you will be able to find your way around it.

Thanks!!! Last time I checked for Garmin Maps was 2 years ago when i got my GPS. I found something that was not very good but I didn't bother checking again. Now they have much better ones. The one in your link which is free and also I found this one http://www.noeman.org/gsm/maps/72889-ga ... 009-a.html

IPhone is too expensive and I think a bit too big. If I would get something like that I would probably get the Nokia 5800 which is much cheaper and gets very good reviews http://europe.nokia.com/5800xpressmusic
