Cyprus isnt that brilliant

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

alexjames, you are right Cyprus has become expensive, I do not however agree with your other comments.

The schools in Cyprus have far better ideals and standards and whilst your kids will get what you consider a better education they will become the spawn of Britain thinking the world owes them a living with no respect for their family elders, expecting smiles from shopkeepers to boot.

Try to discipline your kids a bit at home and set boundaries, then you might not have to rely on the teachers to do it so much at school. .

The kids will look forward to staying indoors cos it rains everyday except for one day a year, oh I forgot the kids can't play outside anymore in England.

Excuse me for butting in. Just wanted to put the record straight on Prince Andrew. I have served with the pompous arse, he is one Grade A tosser with no common sense and lacking in any manners, imo. Thank you.

Take seriously the fact of 43-45 degrees with 12-15 of UK.Then imagine the rest regarding peoples behavor.I was once in Orfanides Limassol and I asked a cashier where i could find a small pasket . The person in charge around started to shout to her because she was speaking to me!!!!!!

Having been rather busy for the last couple of days, I didn't see this thread in it's early stages so I will give my take on the original post.

Despite the protests, a lack of homework is obvious. Cyprus is no longer the cheap place it was, but providing you know what you are doing and don't just buy English products, it is still cheaper than the UK.

Regarding education, the state schools aren't up to much unless you pay for extra lessons to enable your kids to sit for IGCSEs and A levels. However there are very good private schools that will teach your children a lot better than the majority of schools in the UK. The cost of these schools is not much more than what you would have to pay for private lessons if your kids go to a state school.

Unless your house is on a main road, your kids can play in the streets in complete safety without you having to worry about them, giving them a much better opportunity to exercise and interact with others of their own age.

Officialdom can be a pain in the backside, but providing you don't get up-tight, it is not a problem, things just take time. This is one of the major advantages of living here, like I have for the last 30+ years.

Long may we be allowed to keep the Cypriot ways!

ALL many thanks for all your opinions. Alas i have made up my mind. Yes cyprus is everything you all say but i have decided that i want my kids to be privately educated in the Uk. Give them all the opportunities i didnt have.

Incidently there are still thugs in cyprus..just read an article about cypriot thugs in limassol beating the hell out of a security guard for no reason, i know its no comparison to the uk but..it goes on. I will still holiday here for three months of the year . It is not petty because i want the best for my kids. They will get far more opportunitys in the uk.. maybe Harrow or Eaton! :) Many students come to the uk for uni so im not totally wrong am i?

We all know that Cyprus can be expensive and you would of known that before moving out. The prices haven't just shot up over night have they.

To say that Cyprus isn't brilliant because it's expensive is rather silly IMO. I live in the UK and I would rather be out there than here I can tell you.

It's all doom and gloom over here with the recession, crappy bankers, job cuts, bent PM's and ministers. Fuel increasing more and more each bloody week.....you mentioned about fighting and thugs....come back to the UK and go into town at night. Look at the cities and their crime/murder rate.

Think why you moved out there in the first place.
