Very sad news. The old lady was found dead yesterday in Aglantzia. I really don't have more details but will post as soon as I have.
My deepest sympathies to her family.

missing elderly woman is found in Nicosia
By Alexia Saoulli

THE BODY of 86-year-old Lydia Gulesserian was found yesterday morning, ending a search that lasted almost three weeks since the pensioner went missing.

Gulesserian’s remains were found near the University of Cyprus campus in Nicosia, not far from where she had last been sighted after her May 6 disappearance from the Kaladjian aged care home.

Police said a passerby had contacted authorities at around 7.30am with information that he had found a body lying in an open field opposite the Aglandjia cemetery and behind a National Guard camp. Investigators were immediately dispatched to the scene where they found Gulesserian’s remains. She had obviously been dead for several days and her body was hidden among tall shrubs, which was likely why she hadn’t been found sooner, said police.

Investigators said the 86-year-old had been carrying written identification which was why they had been able to confirm who she was.

She will officially be identified by a family friend who is in Cyprus until her three daughters, who live in the United States, return to the island to make the necessary burial arrangements.

Two of the women, Lenia and Arda, flew home to California on Friday after tirelessly searching for their mother since she disappeared from the Stovolos district old age home. A third sister, Yola, who lives in Washington, was due to fly out next week to continue the search.

The trio had hoped their mother would be found alive after several reported sightings in Nicosia, Larnaca and Limassol. Police only confirmed the Nicosia sightings near the university campus where the 86-year-old had spoken to three people and mentioned she had been trying to make her way to Larnaca where she had lived most of her adult life.

Police said Gulesserian’s remains had shown no external injuries to indicate foul play of any sort. Today’s autopsy should reveal more, an investigator said.

The 86-year-old disappeared at 9am on May 6 after she walked out of her aged care home. Three hours passed before carers noticed her absence and contacted Lenia and Arda. The two women had been in Cyprus to settle their mother into the home because she could no longer look after herself.

Arda said her mother had shown no indication of being unhappy in her new surroundings. Although the 86-year-old had not suffered from dementia, she did have water on the brain which sometimes caused her to be disorientated.

She was last seen getting out of a car near the University of Cyprus campus two days after she went missing and stopping to talk to a National Guard soldier whom she told she wanted to get to Larnaca.
