A SOLUTION WOULD NOT BE FOUND WITHOUT TURKISH GUARANTEES

Postby halil » Sun May 10, 2009 9:45 pm

President Mehmet Ali Talat has pointed out that a solution would not be found without ‘Turkish guarantees’ on the island.

The President said this problem was the result of the conflict between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots in the past.

In an interview with the Kathimerini newspaper, Mr Talat evaluated the latest developments concerning the Cyprus issue.

While listing the crucial points suggested by the Turkish Cypriot Side, the President said that the Turkish Cypriot Side does not want any solution without Turkey’s active guarantee.

Touching upon the Orams Case, President Talat said the European Union Commission had asked the European Court of Justice not to make a desicion on the Orams Case while Cyprus peace negotiations continue but judges did not conform this suggestion by the commission.

Referring to the ongoing peace talks, Mr Talat said huge differences have occured on the property and execution chapters due to the exaggerated proposals put forward by the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias.

Stressing that the federation that will be established after the solution will only be formed on the basis of a bi-zonal, bi-communal resultant state, the President said the establishment of a single state with a single community is impossible.

Agreeing to Turkeys demands that she is legally given the right of intervention in any part of Cyprus would spell the end of a free and democratic Cyprus , the end of Cyprus as an independent state member of the EU and all other international affiliations. Talat as well as Turkey must know that such demands will be rejected outright by the Cypriot people , why make such demands I wonder , is it because Turkey DOES NOT wish to see a unified Cyprus ? Is because Turkey having set foot in Cyprus does not intend to have it removed.
I wonder if the EU would endorse such a demand anyway , I very much doubt it .

That was so beautiful and very moving. So realistic (almost) so un-you.

A great interpretation of the demise of the swan.

Were you saying something?

It's too late for demands now; they should just "die" gracefully ....

Turkey wants to reserve the right to intervene, again. If they hadn't had to in 1974, maybe they wouldn't want to retain it. You only have yourselves to blame for this demand.
