Fine I'm sure he did. But the US isn't in the EU and can neither invite nor veto new members. And, in any event, how does saying that mean the US completely backs Turkey's position on Cyprus as you suggest?

Since when has the US openly requested TURKEY to withdraw its troops out of Cyprus, because I cannot remember, perhaps you can tell us ?

What if the US did ask? And then Turkey didn't, because we know she wouldn't? Then what would the US do?

I'm trying to. This is about international diplomacy. There's a reason why the US doesn't do what you suggest they do.

The fact is also that they, USA , have not succumbed to Turkeys pressure in recognising the "trnc"

Is that it? And how do you suppose Turkey can get into the EU while its occupying the territory of an EU member state which holds a veto over its accession? Or did they not mention that part?

True, but defacto they are allowing Turkey to keep its troops on Cyprus which to me is "artificial recognition of the TRNC" .

I did in my "what if" scenario. Because Turkey wouldn't comply with her request. And then what would the US do?

Stop arming Turkey? Impose sanctions? Doing so isn't in the US's perceived geo-strategic interests.

What is this? "The Cyprus problem for the under 12s" thread?
