No one gives up power voluntarily – which is why freedom has to be struggled for, often violently. It's how the Greeks liberated themselves from the Ottomans, the Algerians from the French, the Americans and the Indians from the British.
The Cypriots too, although our initial struggle for freedom was somewhat misguided, resulting ultimately in the liberation of only two thirds of the island. Tragically the northern third was soon to fall under the control of another, more ruthless colonial master.
The point is, if Cypriots in the north wish to be free from isolation, they need to stop targeting justice-seeking Cypriots in the free areas and focus their resentment on the real deniers of their liberty – namely Turkey's military.
Passive resistance, civil disobedience, destruction of symbols of oppression, tearing down of barricades.
