Anyone going?
‘Shocker’ Alice Cooper one-off July Cyprus date
By Zoe Christodoulides
ROCK FANS on the island are soon to have their world turned upside down as entertainment phenomenon, Alice Cooper, arrives to give a one off show on July 12.
Set to play at the Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Centre in Limassol, the performance will form part of a ‘Theatre of Death’ world tour.
Organised by Eleven Concerts and Moonlight Endless Productions, the latter was given great praise following the much publicised Whitesnake gig at the end of last year. The production company are also responsible for a string of other successful concerts in the recent past including that of James Blunt and Bryan Adams.
A master of thrilling performances, 61-year-old Cooper (real name Vincent Furnier) has worked up a reputation as an overtly shocking stage performer over his long career spanning four decades. As for the songs that have made his famous, ‘I’m Eighteen’, ‘School’s Out’, ‘Poison’, ‘Bed of Nails’ and ‘House of Fire’ are a just few that top the long list.
Not only is he always decked up to the nines in ludicrous rock/Goth inspired gear and equally shocking makeup on stage, there have also been numerous instances of total madness on stage. Shows often feature guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood and boa constrictors, with the night in Limassol set to take on a similar dark and deadly theme. Not labelled as the inventor of ‘shock rock’ for nothing, he has also been hailed as the most “beloved” rock entertainer in the world according to The Rolling Stone Album Guide.
A far cry from this wild stage image, Cooper is an avid golfer fast approaching professional standard and has been known to spend time following his passion whenever he gets a spare moment in the countries that he visits on tour.
Ticket sales for the upcoming concert commence on May 11 and prices are fixed at €50. There will also be a limited number of VIP tickets available for €85. Further details can be found at www.moonlightshow.com.
