The Cyprus issue was high on the agenda of the discussions between President Talat and Mr. Davutoglu who in on his first official foreign visit since becoming Foreign Minister.

Later, talks were held between the delegations of the two countries.
The talks continued at a working lunch given in honor of the visiting Turkish Foreign Minister and his accompanying delegation at the Presidential Palace.

Speaking at a joint press conference at the end of the meeting President Mehmet Ali Talat said that he had had a very useful meeting with the new Turkish Foreign Minister and added that ‘this is Mr. Davutoglu’s first official visit, and choosing the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as his first stop is evidence of Turkey’s immense support to the country.’

Noting that the Republic had just recently gone through democratic elections, the Turkish Foreign Minister said ‘the second reason for my visit is to exchange views with the new government’.

‘The third reason for my visit is to show President Talat my support to the ongoing negotiations process in Cyprus’, he added.

Mr. Davutoglu also pointed to the importance of national unity while trying to facilitate a solution to the Cyprus problem that would protect the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Mr. Davutoglu started his contacts in the Republic with a visit to the Dr. Fazil Kucuk’s Tomb in Anittepe on the outskirts of Lefkosa.
