Is TRNC still exist? I though that after Ertogan's comments regarding Eroglu election it was clear that such thing never existed!!!!

You got it all wrong there. The right question is 'Has "TRNC" ever existed?'

From letters section- Cyprus Mail.

The Irish Model and the elections in the north

The parliamentary elections in the Turkish part of Cyprus have been won by fiercely pro Turkish nationalists, who are in favour of a two state solution. The results are a serious setback for Mehmet Ali Talat. He is a lame duck leader and is now faced with a UBP nationalist dominated ‘parliament’. Most Turkish Cypriots want the island divided.
What does this mean for the Greek Cypriots? As things stand, the Republic of Cyprus controls 63 per cent of the total area and the Turkish Cypriots control 37 per cent.
Before 1974 the Turks never amounted to more than 20 per cent of the population. The government should engage in land swapping for mutual recognition – in other words controlling, say, 70 per cent of the total area including Varosha.

The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland is an example of two coexisting states on the same geographic region. No one is pushing the two to unite and the same should apply to the Republic of Cyprus and northern Cyprus. Both communities prefer separation and good neighbourly ties rather than being forces to co exist.
As Greek Cypriots, we have to accept that things will not go back to the way they were before 1974.

My dear friend George Georgiou, I do npt belive that you have consulted with all Cypriots to be making blanket statements such as both communtiies prefer separation. If both communitites preferred separation it would have happened years ago. I personally want to see a united Cyprus where all Cypriots live together, grow and develop as one people of Cyprus.

Have a happy day downunder ;)

Prior to the handover ceremony, the new Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu and his predecessor CTP leader Ferdi Sabit Soyer first held a meeting at the Prime Minister’s office which was closed to the press.

Later the handover ceremony was held in front of a large media audience.

Speaking before transferring his duty to Eroglu, Mr Soyer said, as the main opposition party, they will continue to constructively contribute to the TRNC’s development.

Underlining the need for Turkish Cypriot people to stand on its own feet in terms of the economy, Soyer said `no matter who forms the government; the ideology of maintaining the Turkish Cypriot existence in Cyprus on the basis of equality will remain dominant`

Taking over his duty as the Prime Minister, Dervis Eroglu said the his government’s efforts, together with those of the other deputies with seats in the Parliament, will all be aimed at increasing the Turkish Cypriot People’s prosperity.

Mr Eroglu added that they will be benefiting from the experiences of the previous government.

Earlier yesterday, President Mehmet Ali Talat had approved the new cabinet list presented by Eroglu.

Other handover ceremonies for other ministries were also held today.

The new cabinet now needs to gain the vote of confidence at the Republic’s Assembly.

The Republic’s Assembly, after hearing the new cabinet schedule either from the Prime Minister or any other Minister, will hold discussions on the vote of confidence for 2 days.

And 2 days after the discussions, the Republic’s Assembly will decide on whether or not to pass the vote of confidence.
