Science hasn't even scratched the surface when it comes to explaining the universe (let alone God)... So far it's like a puzzle that they're trying to put together, using their own imagination to create the pieces a lot of the time, and to top it off they have only just about managed to open the box...
Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe that in the very end it will be science that proves Gods existence. It's through this science we know about the mechanisms of life, the universe and how it's put together so being a beliver in a God I feel there is definitely a link between the two.
I don't believe theres any proof of God to be found in holy books, but the wonders of science match quite well the 'higher, supreme, all knowing being' credentials imo...
I did not say it happened by chance. My view is that we don't know - yet.
Maybe Science has just about scratched the surface, but I agree it has a long way to go yet. Nevertheless, in the past there were religious beliefs that attributed natural phenomena (e.g. the eclipse of the sun) to divine intervention, and those phenomena are now understood in terms of science. Of course, this is not to say that therefore there is no God. It simply says that our lack of understanding of physical phenomena seems irrelevant to proving or disproving metaphysical issues.
I would agree that Science has not proven that there is no 'higher, supreme, all knowing being'. Perhaps there is a point at which cosmology and theology converge but we are a long way off yet.
