But seeing as the earth is a living thing and its part of the universe then the universe is living innit!!

Defining life is very simple… it’s actively functioning, and the flow of the procedure goes like this…

Non-existence > Birth > Function > Death > Non-existence

The universe is definitely living or there wouldn't be planets/stars constantly being born and dying, solar systems would cease radiating their energy, new galaxies would cease to be formed, and the universe itself would cease expanding/contracting (depending on which stage of its life it’s at) etc.

Agreed

Isn't that what I said :?:

Why? Because between the two of you, it was decided that life leads to death?

But if one used a common definition of "living" since that was the word you chose to describe the Universe, it would be, apart from various other factors, that it could reproduce.

So, would you now like to expand on how our Universe is repoducing i.e. "living" according to you ... because there are many physicists waiting with baited breath for your answer ....

Oracle, I’ve known you for a couple of years now, and if I were to guess what your line of work might be I’d say a “tabloid columnist” but never a “scientist”… of any kind.

And your idea of science stems from pondering on what makes your cereal go "snap, crackle and pop"

My idea of science is one that needs not ask "scientific" gems like...

"How do you know the "Universe" is "living"?"

Evasive little bugger ....

I've already defined "living" in Richard's response... what else? :?

It wasn't me who answered this:

Oracle wrote:First prove that the existence of a Universe has an a priori requirement for the pre existence of a god.

with this:

GR! wrote:Every living thing must have a BIRTH or a SOURCE if you like, otherwise it must be infinite... (<- reminds you of something?)

Given that the universe itself is LIVING, and we know that because everything encapsulated by the universe is being born > functioning > and finally dying (so there's nothing infinite within it), then such an enormous living entity MUST HAVE a special source from which it stemmed!

Goodmorning GR .......... how do we know though that everything in the universe is born has a function and then dying? are those terms that we as humans have labelled things with perhaps instead of dying things simply change and evolve to another shape or form?

We are witnessing the birth and death of planets/stars and galaxies, via powerful telescopes and special satellites that were designed and sent out to travel along specific paths to relay their observations back to us. The sun is also burning itself out and at the going rate it’s expected to turn into ash in an X number of years; not any time soon though.

are those terms that we as humans have labelled things with perhaps instead of dying things simply change and evolve to another shape or form?

The word “function” I’ve used earlier, was to describe a “living state” and not "the function of it" as in a purpose. We haven’t yet observed a star or planet dying and at the last minute transforming into something else though so I don't know about rebirth...
