CAN THIS BE RIGHT?

Postby MACKAM1955 » Mon May 04, 2009 12:39 pm

I was talking to a guy in Coral Bay yesterday who has just arrived from UK to work on his bosses new house in Sea Caves ( very posh ), now this guy needs his special tools for his trade so his boss is paying for his van full of his tools shipped from UK , so far so good, this guy is only here for about 4 months and will return to UK with van, OK now the customs have told him he has to pay 500 euros before they will release it ,WHY? any ideas. :?

He should ask and they should explain him how they came up with those 500 Euro. If the answer doesn't seem reasonable then maybe he can ask a lawyer. But there should be a reason. Was everything shipped from UK? Was the VAT paid in the UK?

What i'm sure he said was these are not new tools or van so the V.A.T. must of been paid when purchased in UK.

Direct your questions to the Department of Customs and Excise…

He needs to ask what the charge is for, then he can argue the toss. If it's for the tools he can easily get round this by producing the receipts for the tools (if he has them). Why does his employer not help ?

He should be able to bring his vehicle in for six months without have to pay any taxes. He may have to pay clearing fees from the port, but that depends on the shippers.
