I believe in them as books; they both clearly exist, just as Alice in Wonderland and The Odyssey exist. But as authoritative historical references; or as a guide for human behaviour and interaction; there are far too many inherent inconsistencies within each of them; as well as inconsistencies with our current understanding of the world and how it works, to render them, as a whole, unworthy.

Although there are some wonderful bits, I'll grant you, though, for me, your quote from Deuteronomy wouldn't be one of them.

Now the LORD said to Moses, "Rise early in the morning and present yourself before Pharaoh, as he comes out to the water, and say to him, 'Thus says the LORD, "Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
For if you do not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of insects on you and on your servants and on your people and into your houses; and the houses of the Egyptians will be full of swarms of insects, and also the ground on which they dwell."

In fact, Pharaoh imposes new sufferings on the enslaved Israelites. Moses promptly complains to God, who of course already knows that the brothers have failed. And this time the gloves are off: "Now shalt thou see," Yahweh says, "what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land."

All that HE had to do was to use the powers that served HIM well in creating the moon and the stars , the oceans and the rivers and man and woman , instead HE chose violence , intimidation cruelty , just to make one of HIS creations change his mind , the mind that HE designed. !!!
Written by medieval people , what a shame that to this day this mythology is interpreted as Gods word !!!

if you seriously study religions, you will realize that christianity is as much as a myth as the rest of them. in fact, christianity was based on paganism.

you could be right that it has been corrupoted by paganism
but Bible still guides you to the correct path..

now it depends on person , how to find the correct path.

only the truthseeker can go into depth.. coz deep thinker will always think... why Books, Prophets.. which is the right religion.. why people are so far from religion.

in fact, religion is supppose to make ur life easier. then .... so on and so forth..

I agree. It is all a matter of semantics. You have to define "believe" more precisely.
