Dimitris Lipertis - dirty dog?

Postby The Cypriot » Sun May 03, 2009 10:30 pm

Has anyone else noticed what a dirty dog our very own quintessentially Cypriot poet laureate Dimitris Lipertis was?

Have a read of this fantastic filth and see if you can read between the lines....

Ela, goru, na dhumen da mavra su d’ ammathkia,
Bu fkallun jin’ des ghlosses bu gamni do lambron.
J’ an gamnun din garkian mu din aharin gommathkia,
Na men blissis, haro se, haro se, j’ afis’ da na din dron.

M’ an dishi j’ enna gruso je na yino bozavlin,
Mbixe me stin avlin su, var’ me se mian merkan.
Yadi bu din thorkan su bu mian ’meran os allin,

J’ ondas galorizoso je fko psila j’ athhiso,

(with reference to the Lipertis poem above, not the rose poem)

Genius... and reading that how can anyone argue that Cypriot isn't an elegant language worthy of serious expression of thought...

Ethela na ’mun aerudhin,
Na dhogo mesa stin monin su,
Bo ’nna ’se delia manishi su,
Gori Hristinu, horis na barun mirothkian.

Je dode jin’ da galli dodes,
Na da rufiso na da fao.
J’ an nosun xero bu ’nna bao.

Not sure what Lipertis would have made of it.... but I'm pretty sure his artistry would have been inspired by this beautiful scene...

On your post ... there is a little window with "X" on it. It comes after your comment and might be a picture you've uploaded, but it won't open!

We've increased security on our broadband for my son, so maybe it's too risque ..... :?
