RULES OF FEDERATION MUST BE REVEALED AT NEGOTIATIONS TABLE

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

RULES OF FEDERATION MUST BE REVEALED AT NEGOTIATIONS TABLE

Postby halil » Sun May 03, 2009 7:40 pm

The Leader of the National Unity Party Dervis Eroglu, who has been tasked with forming the new TRNC government, has stressed the need for revealing the rules of a federation at the negotiations table.

Mr Eroglu said President Mehmet Ali Talat and the Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias have been speaking of a bi-zonal and bi-communal federation, but the rules lying behind the formation of such a federation need to be revealed.

In an interview to the Greek Cypriot press, Dervis Eroglu reiterated his insistence on a two-state solution.

“South Cyprus has the international recognition while the TRNC is only recognized by Turkey. We will not agree on any political settlement which leaves Turkish Cypriots as a community and makes Greek Cypriots the state” the UBP Leader stressed.

Dervis Eroglu explained that there are two separate sovereign entities in Cyprus and there is a need for disclaiming some of sovereign issues in order to establish a new Republic.

That’s a condition for settling the Cyprus problem, Eroglu noted.
The UBP Leader warned that Turkish Cypriots will share the status of Maronites and Armenians in Cyprus otherwise, which he said is unacceptable.

Also touching upon the European Court of Justice’s judgment on the Orams Case, he said they reject such a judgment.

Hate to say we told you so, your best chnace was with President Talat backed by CTP...you missed that boat, now you have just a watered down version of what Dr Dervis Eroglu will be demanding.

In that case, VP, we will have no solution, with all the consequences that this may entail for both of us, but more so for your side and Turkey.

VP ,
I don't think so that policies of Turkey and TRNC will change . Road map is same as what thet said before . We can hear many things everyday from the papers .These are politic games what i believe . Both sides does not have any choise . Have a look waht the UN's are sayying .They can not get out of it ....

have look another today news what Baba Denktash Says . These are politics.
former President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Rauf Denktas has made the claim that the early general election result caused fear in the Greek Cypriot side.
Speaking at a conference titled `The Latest in Cyprus` in the Turkish city of Antalya, Mr Denktas expressed the view that this fear needs to be maintained in order to help strengthen President Mehmet Ali Talat’s hand at bargaining.

“4 years have passed since the referenda on the Annan Plan and none of the promises given during that period have been kept. Turkish Cypriots have been aware of this and they gave their votes this time to those who used the phrase `the state and nation of mine`” Mr Denktas said.

Denktas said that the reason for his rejection of the Annan Plan during his term of duty was that the approval of the Annan Plan would mean the disruption of balance created in the Lozan Treaty.

“For this reason, I worked really hard to gain a ‘no’ vote in the Turkish Cypriot side” he went on saying.

Referring to some possible dangers awaiting for Turkish Cypriots regarding the solution process, the former President argued that Mr Talat now needs to suspend negotiations.

Negotiations are currently based on the principles of single community, single state and single sovereignty, Denktas said.

“If Turkish Cypriots enter into the European Union by getting unified with Greek Cypriots, before Turkey becomes an EU member state, then this would mean the discontinuation of Turkey-TRNC relations” the former TRNC President added.

here is the another interesting news head line

The give-and-take process now needs to take a start at Cyprus negotiations”, the United States Ambassador to Cyprus Frank Urbancic has said.

Evaluating the Cyprus negotiations process to the Greek Cypriot press, Mr Urbancic explained that negotiations have been based on a set of concrete principles and thus he believes in the possibility of bringing about a mutually acceptable solution to the Cyprus problem.

“The US is ready to make contributions to the solution process when requested, but the best solution is the one to be brought by Cypriots themselves” he said.

On the Orams judgement of the European Court of Justice, the US Ambassador said this is a concern of the European law and he does not have the authority to comment on a court judgement.

Stating that Turkey is not the only key actor in the solution of the Cyprus problem, Frank Urbancic said Greece, Britain and the United Nations share the same role.
