So you acknowledge that we to have rights and concerns which need to be addressed and incorporated in a solution?

Of course. But Turkey's army doesn't and shouldn't. And nor should Britain and her military,

So one of our concerns is the balance of power how do you see the role of the TCs?

Ultimately, no different to any other Cypriot citizens. Why would I discriminate?

Knowing the GC past performance what if the GCs use their numerical advanatge to brush aside and pass legistlation that would put TC state at a disadvantage?

We must make sure any arrangements are right in the first place, certainly in accordance with EU legislation and principles, to ensure this won't happen. Certainly not arrangements that are agreed to under duress, on a take it or leave it basis, like the 1960 constitution.

What does that mean? leaving the door wide open for manipulation and discrimination?

No.

You are not being very clear, how exactly do you propose the balance of power is arranged so as to ensure TCs ar enot brushed to one side?

If TCs in power act in the interests of Cyprus and its people as a whole rather than for a foreign power why would that happen? It hasn't happened to Armenians or Maronites in power. So here's my proposal: cut the umbilical chord between TCs and Turkey, ie. remove the troops, the guarantees and the intervention rights. I know you won't like it but it's the only way to ensure TCs act for Cyprus not as Turkey's proxy; and so won't be brushed aside.

We all wish to get there, the question is how?
Who is going to pay for the civil service, the police and the military next month? The RoC? I think not.
A practical way of doing it is to sign the peace agreement, remove all the embargos, help the TRNC develop its economy after 35 years of neglect and then you will see the fruits of your labour. Anything else is wishful thinking.

The peace agreement, I think, will be signed if, as part of the agreement, the umbilical chord is cut. But that isn't what Turkey's military wants; it isn't what your leaders in the north are saying they will agree to.

Its in the method. What is being asked is impossible? The TCs will not vote for it, it's not just the leaders. What I am suggesting is 5 years maybe 10 years down line where TCs will not depend on Turkey for handouts, and then it will work. The TCs cannot compete with Turkey on anything because Turkey produces better quality at cheaper prices anything you care to name. That is why in time TCs will choose GCs as a partner as opposed to Turkey. That is of course assuming that the GCs wish to trade with the TCs, if not then in VP’s words we’ll have to look at alternatives.
I'll give you one simple example, RoC pays better price for grain then Turkey, however fertiliser is cheaper from Turkey. So you see there is money to be made by trading with both communities.
