Letter to MP concerning Apostolides v Orams

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Dr J » Sun Aug 09, 2009 8:53 pm

Well is it people like you or real Cypriots who live in the north - because it's people like you who are stopping real Cypriots live in their ancestral homes and destroying the Cypriot heritage in the north. It's all people like you I would REALLY love to meet in battle one day.

Battle? so you want "real Cypriots" to capitulate to GC demands?

Greek Cypriot demands have the best intentions for Cypriots. Turkish demands have the best intentions for Turks in Cyprus.

Namely giving GCs the free hand they long for to do as they wish with the whole island.

If one group of Cypriots had a free hand to do as they wish with the whole island - at the expense of other groups of Cypriots, then that would be unacceptable, as well as unlawful. But, by the same token, it is unacceptable and unlawful for another group of Cypriots and Turkey to have a free hand to do as they wish with a part of the island - at the expense of other groups of Cypriots.

Why can some Cypriots see this but others can't?

Explain to the readers what is so "political" about the Cyprus problem... don't just expect people to take your word for it.

It for this reason we are unable to find a solution, both sides are just as blind.

No YOU are blind with nationalism. You, like Y-Fred, Shahmaran etc have NO respect or allegiances for the history, heritage or culture of this island - you only have the well being of Turkish nationalism at heart.

You go around telling the world (or those who bother to read this forum) that you are 'Turkish Cypriot' but who are you trying to kid?? It's people like you who are helping to kill off the Turkish Cypriot community - and don't you FUCKIN DARE say its the 'Greek Cypriot embargoes' that are doing so because that's a load of crap!

Embargos did not start in 74 old boy, they started in 63. Carry on with that mentality and it will be 2 states whether you like it or not.

This is where you have it wrong, vp. The Cyprus problem isn't about sides, if ever it was. It's about extremes, two of them, full of vitriol and vengeance, spoiling everything for the vast majority of Cypriots, who simply want to get on with their lives, and with each other.

Each nation has its hardcore nationalist fanatics. But Cyprus's inadequates align themselves to the perceived righteousness of two modern overseas countries who they'd rather be part of than their own people. Deluded inadequates whose sense of self is enhanced by identifying with the grandeur of regional civilisations/empires long since past; and defined in no small measure by hatred of the 'other', like a football supporter who must automatically despise his own club's nearest rivals. It's sick. Because it's resulted in the tearing apart of the island.

But what's more sick is that the majority don't have it in them to expose the fanatics for what they are; condemn them, ostracise them. Instead they make excuses for them; perhaps tacitly approve of them; because they find it easier to blame their woes on those who suffer as much as they, on the other side of a line drawn to keep ignorant extremists in check.

Treason laws should be passed. Prisons should be built. And all these traitors to Cyprus who preach vitriol and vengeance should be locked away. Because it's these Cypriots who we shouldn't have to live with. It's these Cypriots who are blind.

Why can some Cypriots see this but others can't?
