In an exchange with an "RAF pilot" on another thread, it became obvious how little we know of the methods employed by Britain to achieve its aims abroad. He was not even aware that Britain used air strikes on our Island, terrorising civilians ....
Who's the RAF pilot?
You not referring to Big Oz are you?
One of the new arrivals from C44F, "
zgn", with a thread in general chat ... said he wasn't aware the RAF bombed in Cyprus.
Is he a "RAF" Pilot?
Because if he was then he would surely be aware that the RAF was active in Cyprus. He should be able to recite every single RAF squadron, each squadron's history, where each squadron had served, and what equipment each squadron utilised.
Some of the squadrons you mention above are still active today. No. I Squadron is now a Harrier Squadron.
I don't know. He started off by saying:
zgn wrote:Would love to know which village you were born in and when - also which Brit aircraft was bombing you in Cyprus, who knows, it may have been me!
... and then later said to Jerry
By the way, never dropped bombs on anyone - well not on Cyprus anyway - and can not think of a time when the RAF did so either but will not argue any proof to the opposite.
So I tried to check this out and came up with that great book by Holland, discussing the tactics employed by Brits during the de-colonisation times.
