The new Parliament which was formed after the 19th of April elections held its first meeting today and the National Unity Party leader Dervıs Eroglu was also given the mandate to form the new government.
Following the oath-taking ceremony President Mehmet Ali Talat appointed the winner of the elections, the leader of the National Unity Party Dervis Eroglu with the task of forming the new government.
The ceremony was broadcast live from BRT 1.
As the oldest member of the parliament, Mr. Eroglu chaired today’s Parliamentary sessions until a new Speaker is elected.
It has also been decided that the next meeting will take place on the 6th of May.
According to official results announced by the High Electoral Council, the National Unity Party has 26 seats, the Republican Turkish Party-United Forces 15, Democrat Party 5, Communal Democracy Party and the Freedom and Reform Party 2 each in the 50-seat parliament.
According to the legal procedure, the deputy who was appointed to form the new government should fulfill this task within 15 days or should give back the duty.
The Ministers will be appointed by the President in line with the suggestion of the party leader who is appointed with the task of forming the government.
The current government will continue its duty until the new Council of Ministers is appointed by the President.
