29% TC State how was it Calculated?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

29% TC State how was it Calculated?

Postby Viewpoint » Thu Apr 30, 2009 10:19 pm

65% = Privately owned land
18% of this 65% =11.5%
35% State owned land
50% of this 35% = 17.5%

11.5% + 17.5% = 29% this figure is always on the table now we know why.

Actually, VP; it comes from the fact that TCs constituted 1/3 of total population of Cyprus. Those TCs who emigrated until 1960, alienated their properties to Evkaf. They had no right to sell their properties to anyone under the then social and civil order.

VP the calculations are not as easy as that. 1% of land in the south does not equal 1% of land in the north. Try 1% in the south=10% in the north and you will be nearer the figure. Its current land values and not square meters of land being compared.

VP, can I have a look at your math grades?

The solution to your problem is:

65% = Privately owned land
18% of this 65% =11.7%
35% State owned land
18% of this 35% = 6.3%

11.7% + 6.3% = 18%

Note: not accounting for UKSBA (3%) which can be considered state owned land and distributed similarly as above.

Next question!

The key here is the state land at 35% who says we only have 18% right? It was calculated at 50% to allow for the return of a number of GCs.

Given that…

60.9% - Greek/Armenian/Maronite Cypriots
12.3% - Turkish Cypriots
0.5% - Others
26.3% - State

Then…

a. Privately owned land: 100 - 26.3 = 73.7%

b. TC ethnic ratio: Based on private ownership strength…

(12.3 x 100) / 73.7 = 16.69%

c. TC share of State land: (16.69 x 26.3) / 100 = 4.39

d. Total TC land entitlement: 12.3+ 4.39 = 16.69%

Total area of privately owned land was 65% 18% of this was TCs.
the remaining 35% was state land of which TCs got 50% allowing for the return of a certain number of GCs to the TC state, thats how they arrived at the 29% always quoted at the negotiations and even in the AP.
