The Hellenisation of Cyprus

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

That’s the very problem! Nobody has provided any credible evidence that Cyprus is “Greek”, or that Greeks ever came here even!

Feel free to enlighten us in a new thread… :)

Um, what do you consider as "credible" evidence? A time machine to take us back circa 1000 BC so we could ask the Cypriots if they considered themselves as Greeks?

But we don't have time machines. What we do have is contemporary history, primary sources, and archeological evidence, which have been provided in this thread. And the detractors in here haven't provided not even one source that proves otherwise. That's what you need to do.

But you really haven't got anything to support your argument, do you? So why do you waste my time.

I’ve got many threads in here that would make you run away with your tail between your legs…

Don’t assume that this forum only just started when you walked in!

You’ll find that the “credible evidence” that Cyprus is/was "Greek" is always “according to legend” or “many say”, etc. Ever heard of mythology?

I'll direct you to some threads a bit later when I find the time if you're interested.

I'll be looking forward to it. But you're not going to keep waiting for long?

btw Get Real, what do you think about this? One of your fellow countrymen in 1355 said quote- All the Hellenes here in Cyprus- unquote.

And do you think it was the CIA or the Mafia that really assassinated Kennedy? Personally, I'd like to think it was the Mafia because it will make a good Martin Scorsese film...better than Oliver Stone's.

GR will post you links from the FYROM propaganda website.

Alternatively, he may tell you that the boats weren't big enough at the time for Greeks to colonise Cyprus on a mass scale (forgetting that Greeks arrived in Cyprus over hundreds of years and not in one sudden mass migration).

He may also tell you that Cypriots existed before Greeks arrived (like that proves anything!). Minoans existed before Crete was Greek, big deal! Britons existed before Anglo-Saxons arrived in England, etc etc.

He may also tell you that Cypriots gave the Greeks their alphabet. Whilst this may be partly true (as some evidence shows that the Cypriot script helped the Greeks form an alphabet, based on the Phoenician one) all this proves is how much Cypriots have contributed to Hellenism, as part of the Greek world!

GR has been humiliated many times in the past on this topic, but he refuses to give up the ghost...

The truth is that the only difference between Cyprus and the other Greek islands is that Cyprus was not allowed full self-determination and union with Greece, like the other islands were, due to the geo-strategic interests of the great powers.

Anything else is pro-Turkish revisionist hogwash.

Or, looked at another way, the only difference between Cyprus and the other Greek islands is that its people's superior birth, dignity, learning and saintliness have enabled it, in more recent years, to secure full autonomy from and equal status with Athens, the cradle and citadel of ancient Hellenic civilisation, at the EU and UN.

Of course you could look at it that way, as long as you are not concerned with accurately portraying history.

As far as I am aware the Greek islands are happy to be part of the Greek nation, and are equal in status with the Athenians as well as all other areas of Greece. Patently, they also have the added benefit of not having their islands split in two, partly thanks to the umbrella of the larger Greek state.
