What those people like The Cypriot and GR don't realise is the Phoenicians were of Hellenic descent themselves (colonists from Crete).
What you don't realise is how ridiculous you sound to the outside world (ie. "non-Hellenic" – assuming you'd even countenance such a thing). Small wonder many choose to distance themselves from such a pathological preoccupation, with such embarrassing proponents.
Perhaps this is what author David Sacks meant by "peculiar" when describing ancient Hellenic culture in Cyprus, in his fine work, "A Dictionary Of The Ancient Greek World" which barouti referenced earlier.
