RichardB,
Good day to you sir. Answers for your questions:

I did not purchase pre74 property - I live on "leased" pre74 land (better make that plain that it is Turkish Title that goes back to 1931 so is fairly safe). I leased the land and paid to have my house built upon it in the knowledge that it would all revert back to the original owner once both myself and my wife had died. We did it this way to ensure that we did not diminish the land holdings of the Turkish Cypriots (we would have done the same in the South if we had not liked the North more) - it is kind of 50 years rent up front but safe for all parties.
Actually european title land is the most expensive but pre74 must be more expensive than post 74 because it is safer land to purchase.
NO, I do not agree with EU nationals, or anyone else for that matter, buying illegal property.
I have no sympathy at all with persons who have "Knowingly" purchased illegal properties.
I think the same holds true of a similar situation in the South regarding carpetbaggers and the feelings of the TC.
I do not think that Turkey will ever be allowed into the EU - the EU do not want them anyway and will always find a barrier to them joining. The would be better to form a MEU (Middle East Union) than try to overcome centurys of feelings against their religion - sad but true.
Your last question - Not a chance! Facts never change, only the way we interpret them.
Have a good day.

Thank you for your honest answers
It seems that we are not a million miles apart after all

The situation in the south is that persons are not allowed to purchase any TC property-So there is a vast difference

Re the EU I guess we'll have to agree to differ

richard,
please explain why?
i think the only property i know in the north which is leasehold is karmi.
now our good tc friend was stationed there during 74 and he tells us it is majority/ all gc's land and not to buy anything there.( even thought the properties are leasehold)
i could be wrong but i would like an answer to my question?
if you know different please explain.

I could be wrong but the post did seem feasable to myself

Maybe it was a private agreement with an individual landowner

I know although not common that this type of purchase (lease not Freehold) is also not too rare a happening in the UK

The poster did not say he had purchased Pre 74 title property but had purchased a 50 year lease on pre74 titled land and built his own property on it

Hey i'm certainly no expert on property laws and regulations so I just took it as said
