I think you are right RichardB, I am sure that was what the prat meant.

Interesting, though, that during all that study in NZ, the turkish-speaking sheep did not help him to at least gain a good command of the English language!

All very polite, courteous well mannered replies to a new member to your forum, such is the life of expatriate Pomes! PS Gallipoli is the Brit spelling, Gelibolu is the correct one where my Great Uncle died at ANZC cove because of your wonderful leaders Churchill, Hamilton, Keyes, Kitchener etc.

I refer to your first very courteous post above

As for you being a new member on forum well I can only aknowledge that you only came here to be a little fish in a big pond as to being a big fish in a little pond over on Cy44 and have basically been shot to pieces.

i am sorry if you lost your great uncle at gallopoli .My father died shortly after my birth in 1956 as a result of wounds whilst serving in North Africa as part of Montgomery's desert rats but that would have nothing to do with the situation in Cyprus would it.?? so please do not expect a sympathy vote regards your loss.We are debating the present here and not the past.

Welcome to the Forum plonker.

English is the set language of this Forum so the English spelling Gallipoli is the correct word to use here. May surprise you to know or otherwise that this place-name is derived from the old gr name and is based on two simple gr words.
