I have been seriously thinking of pissing off exchange and going cloud computing...

Before I make the move I would like to hear from others as to what they think...

I never used Exchange personally and I never found a reason why to bother. What kind of benefits does it give you to worth the trouble?

It takes an all day affair to rebuild when it goes down...also the backing up is a headache...If you have 8-10 users it can be troublesome...

cloud computing takes all the headaches away...you access your mail through the net...

I am also thinking of joining google apps...no more office...everything online...

Openoffice is pretty good and it is free!

I have an open source mail server which from the reports I have read, is good, but I will report back in a few days when I have installed it and tried it out.

What I have is just a Cpanel hosting account with a domain. I can create as many email accounts as I want and they can be accessed via webmail or you can download them on your desktop email client. You can also setup things like spam protection and autoresponders very easily. And because there are many hosts that use cpanel I can easily move host whenever I want. What I do is to download my emails on Outlook and also keep a copy on the server for backup. What more would I be able to do with Exchange to worth the trouble?

I tried Google Apps some time ago. I think it is great for collaboration when many people make changes to a document. But for everything else I still prefer Office.

Do you have multiple domains to handle Boomers?
