INVITATION TO A CONCERT OF GREEK AND TURKISH MUSIC NICOSIA 3 JULY 2005
The Cultural Association of the Morphou Bishopric has the pleasure of inviting you to a concert of music from Asia Minor (the common way of Greeks and Turks), with musicians from Greece and Turkey: Christos Tsiamoulis, Khalil Karandouman, Katerina Papadopoulou, Socrates Sinopoulos, Haris Lambrakis, Costas Meletakis and Yiannis Playianakos, on Sunday 3rd July 2005 at 8.30pm in the square of Phaneromeni in the old part of Nicosia (behind the church of Phaneromeni and in front of the entrance to the School of Phaneromeni).
Through this cultural event, we aim at showing the common musical tradition, the common songs which for many centuries now are sung in two languages: Greek and Turkish. A common tradition which has respected the musical particularities of the different peoples who lived for centuries in the Asia Minor region and which has carefully and tactfully avoided their compression, thus preserving their beauty in a common way of expression of a common Civilization, which may be unknown by the majority of our people but which has never ceased to exist and be rediscovered from generation to generation.. We therefore consider it very important for Cyprus of 2005 to listen to the music sung jointly by Greeks and Turks. Music and songs which connect us with our past as well as our future, since we all hope that culture will become a bridge of communication between the two peoples and, by analogy, the two communities of Greek-Cypriots and Turkish-Cypriots.
