So what benefit is there for installing W7 if you have factory installed Vista?

Sounds awfully risky to me. The OS is not even fully developed.

You lot are being the guinea pigs...

I personally want to install W7 in the hope that it is more stable than Vista. Vista has been giving me the shits since day one.

My Vista OS came with the laptop. I have not had any issues although they say it is resource intensive.

Was your Vista factory installed or did you buy the OS?

What specs are you running?

It's a HP laptop.

2.4 Centrino Core Duo T8300
2 GB Ram
256 MB Nvidia 8300GS graphics card
320 GB HDD
Vista Home Premium

My computer crashes all the time, the task manager will not even open up, leading me to turning the frekin thing off with the power button.

then you cant do upgrade... with windows 7 you can only upgrade to the same os type.. fpor example i have windows vista ultimate 64 bit.. so the only version of windows 7 i can use update for is windows 7 ultimate 64bit i cant use windows vista home premiume and update to widows 7 ultimate you have to be on ultimate even on ultimate 32bit to ultimate 64 bit you cant update... you have to update to windows 7 whatever their home premiume is.. on microsoft.com they have the ultimate which is why you havent been able to use the upgrade feature..

i hope that makes sense

Here’s what usually happens to people’s computers…

Step1:
First, the user gets Adware and Malware ATTACKS by installing junk “tools” like “tool bars”, P2P crap like “Limewire”, “Bearshare”, “Imesh”, “Kaza”, popular “chat programs” etc. Some of these junk installations are intentional like the above, and some are unsolicited by visiting dodgy porn sites, etc.

Step2:
The system’s performance gradually deteriorates to a point where it becomes next to useless… things take ages to accomplish, you lose control, etc, which results to FRUSTRATION.

Step3:
The frustration makes the average user RESTART the computer in the hope that the problem will go away but… when a computer is shut down prematurely (via the reset button or by turning off power) it almost always leads to Hard Disk logical errors such as cross-linked files etc. This is because during the course of a windows session, there could be dozens or hundreds of files “open” by the OS and other software, and portions of files still retained in memory but not flashed and closed to disk.

Step 4:
If enough logical errors pile up, the hard disk will eventually no longer boot and a “BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH” will most likely appear only to repeat itself with every reset. By now the user has no choice but to visit a computer shop…

I knew you were a bad user...

People want to DL music, movies, and programs so they almost always fall for it! The temptation is great but there’s a price to pay… :)

The trick is to let OTHERS download and then just go to their house with your USB and copy stuff off them! Let them ruin their computer but don't ruin yours...

You just reminded me of my dreaded "Downloads" folder it is full of stuff downloaded off limewire the majority being partially complete movies, every time I open it, the machine just crashes before even opening it up properly. I'll just have to delete the entire thing.

Here's what to do...

1. Remove your hard disk.

2. Connect it to another healthy computer as a slave.

3. Scan the slave disk for adware/malware and viruses. (You'll need to use a variety of cleaning programs because nothing does everything)

4. Reconnect it back and bingo!

Easy as pie! :D
