I've been trying to install Windows 7 as an upgrading from vista but the following message keeps coming up during the installation.

"To upgrade to Windows 7, the computer needs to be running Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later. You can install the latest service pack by using Windows Update. Open Control Panel and search for “Windows Update”. For more information about how to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1, go to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=139503"

My computer already has the latest updates downloaded automatically, I don't get it? Any suggestions?

So what benefit is there for installing W7 if you have factory installed Vista?

Sounds awfully risky to me. The OS is not even fully developed.

You lot are being the guinea pigs...

I recently bought a new laptop and gave my old one away. My partner has her own laptop as well. So it is a 2 laptop household...

I have never owned a desktop believe it or not. On the road too much so I have to make do with laptops.

I personally want to install W7 in the hope that it is more stable than Vista. Vista has been giving me the shits since day one.

My Vista OS came with the laptop. I have not had any issues although they say it is resource intensive.

Was your Vista factory installed or did you buy the OS?

What specs are you running?
