You are making the right move mate , plenty of sunshine through out the year , safe environment , and the friendliest locals in Europe . A truly cosmopolitan island but unlike the British type of " cosmopolitan " the Cypriot one is most definitely made up of 21st century "cosmo" people. !!
The Cypriots are a very proud race , both the G/Cs and the T/Cs , avoid politics at all cost.
If you have school age children the choice of quality schools is plentiful , should you be looking to rent initially
I have a couple of first class 3 bed apartments in Limassol in the best possible location 50 metres away from the sea.
Best of luck.

Don't buy any land from the occupied areas .... it could belong to a Refugee sold by the occupier

Then again it may be perfectly legal. In any case certainly rent for the 1st 6 Months or so, try different areas then after say 6 months decide whether it really is for you, some find it great for a holiday but dont like living here and have by then bought a property, which they have difficulties selling on.

Do as much research as you can, try different forums for advice

Good luck
