Many thanks for the answer Pippin.
The second part of your reply is incorrect though.

I have never had the need to claim in the UK either having contributed for over 40 years. Nothing cheeky about it Cyprus cheated their way into the EU some time ago. I am still not entirely convinced they have no unemployment benefit system. But thanks for the reply.

I have heard that you can transfer social insurance and pension funds over to Cyprus and claim benefits...

They have the system, but if you have not paid into it you are not entitled to benefit.

Thanks for the replies. I will follow up on transferring "social insurance" cxontributions, sounds like that might be most promising.

Being a British expat who left because I was fed up of the way immigrants get preferential treatment over citizens my reply was exactly how I see it.
I did not come here expecting to be given anything for nothing here in Cyprus.
I work and pay social insurance but I know that in fact even if I was out of work I would not get much from the Cyprus government. However what i pay does mean I wil lget a little bit of pension which will help to top up my UK pension.
When I came I made sure I had enough to keep me while I was building up my business because I knew I would not get anyhelp here.

DH999, your desire for scrounging on the Cyprus state aside, on what basis do you support the view that "Cyprus cheated their way into the EU" ?

My question is why would anyone want to come and live in a Country that they feel 'cheated' their way into the EU?
What about the UK who are only in as far as it suits them? When the UK adopts the Euro then then they can claim to really be a part of the EU.

Thank you to those who genuinely tried to answer the question. Cyprus "cheating" their way into the EU club is a widely accepted "fact".

Pippin, I get the impression that you are not going to get an answer to your question. The veracity of DH999's statement the he/she plans to move to Cyprus is yet to be seen. The only hard fact thus far is that in the context of unemployment benefits, DH999 starts making an unsubstantiated and IMHO racist remark about Cyprus "cheating".

DH999, please feel free to clarify.
