The process to form a new government is underway following last Sunday’s parliamentary elections.
With the resignation of the junior coalition partner-the Freedom and Reform Party, all eyes have turned on the new government to be formed.
President Mehmet Ali Talat has started receiving parties which gained seats in the Republic’s Assembly before appointing them with the task of setting up a new government.
Within this framework, the President received the leader of the National Unity Party, Dervis Eroglu, whose party swept to victory in Sunday’s election.
The National Unity Party which won 26 seats in the TRNC parliament has enough seats to form a majority government and will most likely be given the task of forming the new government.
President Talat is expected to receive the representatives of the other 4 parties, the Republican Turkish Party, the Democrat Party, the Social Democrat Party and the Freedom and Reform Party.
The new Republic’s Assembly will convene on the 1st of May, 10 days after the publication of the official results in the public gazette.
Deputies who gained seats in parliament will be receiving their letters of accreditation tomorrow afternoon.
