Are GCs willing to WAIT until the end?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Has unification happened by default after so many years - obviously not, so, where is your reasoning for this crazy unification; evolution of the ROC idea?

It's the GCs that need waking up, and Dervis Eroglu will make certain of it.

Turkkan, I would say at the moment that you'll eat those words of the U.S Not recognising the TRNC, but I would definitely say DO NOT Dismiss it! There are more goings on behind the scenes than you obviously know Turkkan aba. I respect your position, and know that we will all rejoice soon.

MrH,

Personally i don't give a shit who is in the goverment....being it TC's, GC's or Armenians. How could unification have taken place? It was Donktosh who kept the crossings closed brainwashing the TC's that they were going to be slaughtered by the evil GC's for so many years. Did you see any problems among the cypriots since the crossings opened? Did your so called state get recognised by anybody accept turkey=fascist state after all these years? I just want my human rights, freedom of movement and freedom of speech preserved by any goverment in Cyprus. Your a minority in your so called state and your telling the GC's to wake up??

How does a TC go about meeting a GC that wants nothing to do with TC's?

Their colleagues, and students at uni. Their not hostile to TC's and certainly the ones ive spoken to dont have any underlying hate. They just dont want to share a government with TC's and change the way things are practised in their community now from education all the way to government. You probably know that in real life most people are courteous and dont insult each other the same way people do on this forum.

Redhouse Dictionary:

aba - stout coarse woolen cloth
abla - elder sister

I see you are making deliberate spelling mistakes in Turkish, too. Very clever!

A bit of personal knowledge you may be interested in Tim, it may not be in the dictionary but in Turkish Cypriot Aba=Abla. In Cyprus we refer to a stout coarse woolen cloth as yünlü.
You see we have our differences with the Turks although they do claim that we have bastardised the Turkish language.

Thanks for that.
I have referred to my two dictionaries of Cypriot Turkish
(Orhan Kabataş Kıbrıs Türkçesinin Etimolojik Sözlüğü
and
Hakeri'nin Kıbrıs Türkçesi Sözlüğü)
and they confirm what you say.
Don't worry. I have plenty of respect for the Cypriot version of the Turkish language as the linguistic expression of Turkish Cypriot cultural autonomy, and very much regret its gradual demise.

Sorry, perhaps it's only applicable in the Lurucina lands. I did say in TC lands!

Really? I know thats the kind of mentality you would love to persist but ten years ago talking about partition was pretty much a taboo now a lot of people mention their preference for it provided they get some land back. I have met plenty of greek cypriots who dont want to have anything to do with TC's. Thats in 34 years. After another twenty very few people will be talking about co-existence and anyone who can remember an era of co-existence would be dead by then. Eitherway, even if you wish to wait it for a few decades, its not as if us and turkey are going anywhere. We can wait with you. I cant find it now, but yesterayds politis had an interview with clerides also mentioning the new found attitude among some of 'us here and them there'.

That the TRNC will be recognised without the ROCs consent is obviously nonsense, the above talk about the US recognising it or the EU is rubbish. But what can happen is states like pakistan or other allies of turkey recognising it. Without any serious consequence to them more of these minor states will recognise the TRNC but none of the major world players. All that will serve to do is strengthen our hand in any future negotiation. Poll after poll states that TC's today would reject the annan plan, we are clearly not in any state to negotiate with you from a weak position. We will wait till we get what we want. The only exception to all this is if turkey has a REALISTIC chance of entering the EU and is very near achieving it. In that scenario I can see turkey forcing us to make big concessions, but given that at this moment in time that is a fairy tale Im not to worried. As long as sarkozy is in power, i feel safe.

I appreciate your realistic viewpoint and good understanding of the situation… something quite rare coming from a TC!

The first time I heard the word “partition” was the Greek “Dihodomisis”, during the Turkish invasion by frustrated refugees fleeing the invader’s advances but of course they had no idea back then that TCs were hinting at 37% of territory that didn’t even belong to them!

The bottom line is that many GCs don’t have a problem with partition if it’s fair & square… in other words what you owned and NOT what you stole, so if your administration was serious about partition they would’ve made a SERIOUS offer by now but that has never happened.

For the RoC to change her stance she needs to start hearing from the TC administration, about the return of 15%+ of occupied territory… otherwise there is no incentive whatsoever and I’m sure you’ll agree or correct me if I’m wrong.

WOuld still not vote for it. Unless partition is made on the basis of everyone's house and Cyprus ends up looking like a swiss cheese...no deal.
