The leader of the National Unity Party Dervis Eroglu has said that his party was in support of the continuation of the Cyprus negotiation process.
The UBP leader told the Anatolian News Agency that his party didn’t want the negotiations to end.
‘The negotiations are necessary in order to reach an agreement`, he said.
The leader of the National Unity Party Dervis Eroglu has stressed that his party would be supporting President Mehmet Ali Talat who is representing the Turkish Cypriot Side at the talks.
`There is no need for the President to concern`, he noted, while respond to claims that the UBP’s victory in the election would hinder the negotiation process.
He expressed his party’s desire to strike a deal at the talks, but said that the Turkish Cypriot Side’s good would not be enough on its own to bring peace.
`The international community’s pressure should be directed to the Greek Cypriot Side`, he said.
The UBP Leader reminded that he had made it clear for several times during the election campaign that President Talat would lead the negotiations as long as he stood as the President of the Republic.
Noting that a person would be included into the team accompanying the President at the talks, he said this person would be determined in consultation with Mr. Talat in order not to disrupt him.
On relations with Turkey, the UBP Leader said that his government would be in close cooperation and dialogue with the Turkish government and the ruling Justice and Development Party.
Responding to a question on relations with Greek Cypriot political parties, he said that the UBP was not an enemy of Greek Cypriot political parties and the Greek Cypriot people, adding that the party was aware of the existence of two peoples on the island.
He noted that the two should live together on this island without feeling hatred towards each other, Eroglu said `if a party from the South requests a meeting with us, as well as not being in a position to reject this, we may also ask for meetings with some Greek Cypriot political parties
