ANKARA WILL NOT SUPPORT ANY STEP THAT WILL WEAKEN THE HAND OF PRESIDENT TALAT’
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has made it clear that his government would not be supporting any step that would weaken the hand of President Mehmet Ali Talat at the negotiation table.
Speaking at his party’s group meeting at the Turkish Parliament, Mr Erdogan said that the Cyprus negotiation process should continue.
`Let’s hope for the best` he said, while commenting on the results of Sunday’s elections in the TRNC.
`Especially, I want to voice our expectation that the ongoing process being conducted by South and North Cyprus towards bringing a solution on the island would be supported, not hindered`, he said.
`No one should speculate on this. The process launched should continue. A new government has emerged… It will be a wrong approach to say that this government will end the talks or that the talks will be conducted on a different basis. We will not be supporting any step that will weaken the hand of the President`, Mr Erdogan said.

Mr Eroglu also stressed that his party would be supporting President Mehmet Ali Talat who is representing the Turkish Cypriot Side at the talks.
`There is no need for concern`, he noted.
