ANKARA WILL NOT SUPPORT ANY STEP THAT WILL WEAKEN THE HAND OF PRESIDENT TALAT’

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has made it clear that his government would not be supporting any step that would weaken the hand of President Mehmet Ali Talat at the negotiation table.

Speaking at his party’s group meeting at the Turkish Parliament, Mr Erdogan said that the Cyprus negotiation process should continue.
`Let’s hope for the best` he said, while commenting on the results of Sunday’s elections in the TRNC.

`Especially, I want to voice our expectation that the ongoing process being conducted by South and North Cyprus towards bringing a solution on the island would be supported, not hindered`, he said.

`No one should speculate on this. The process launched should continue. A new government has emerged… It will be a wrong approach to say that this government will end the talks or that the talks will be conducted on a different basis. We will not be supporting any step that will weaken the hand of the President`, Mr Erdogan said.

UBP LEADER SAYS NEGOTIATIONS ARE NECESSARY FOR AN AGREEMENT

The leader of the National Unity Party Dervis Eroglu has repeated that his party was in support of the continuation of the Cyprus negotiation process.

`We didn’t want the negotiations to be ended and we will never do so. Negotiations are necessary in order to reach an agreement`, the UBP Leader told the Anatolian News Agency.

Mr Eroglu also stressed that his party would be supporting President Mehmet Ali Talat who is representing the Turkish Cypriot Side at the talks.

`There is no need for concern`, he noted.

GUL EXPRESSES STRONG SUPPORT TO CYPRUS TALKS

Turkish President Abdullah Gul has voiced his strong support to the Cyprus negotiation process and President Mehmet Ali Talat – who represents the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus at the talks.

Speaking at a joint press conference with the Lebanese President Michael Suleyman, the Turkish President said `democracy is functioning well in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the people decided on their own without influence.
He stated that the existence of two separate realities on the island should be taken into consideration in the efforts of a solution, adding that the negotiation process in Cyprus was continuing.

`The President is representing the Turkish Cypriot People at the negotiations`, he said, reminding that an opportunity was missed in 2004 when the Greek Cypriots rejected a UN Peace Plan, which was also supported by the European Union also.

`These negotiations are new. Turkey, as Motherland, strongly supports the talks and Mr Talat. I hope the negotiations will be concluded with an agreement`, he said.

Conclusion: all these years G/cs are negotiating with the wrong party (T/cs). If they want solution they have to start negotiations with the party which can agree and decide about a solution (Ankara).

Wrong info Halil. Greece has ended its policy for Cyprus after the Island became EU member. Karamanlis today is visiting Cyprus just to collect some more votes in mainland Greece for his political party which is colapsing here.

What someone could expect from Greek foreign policy with people like George Papantreou and Dora Mpakogianni.? Instructions to them are coming directly from Washigton.Last about Cyprus was to avoid to refer to this case. I have long to hear both of them to refer to Cyprus problem. Cristofias is giving them a hand on this without to realize it.Cristofias consider that Cyprus is a super power (like some others in the past) and therefore as less Greece involve the better.
Now i heart he wants to create an indepedent National Guard (possibly changing also the name) and then he will realize that he will be the second destroyer of Cyprus, after the famous junta of Athens.
