Remember when Mehmet Ali Talat was first elected 'Prime minister' whilst Rauf Denktas was still the 'president'? The US and EU stated that they would switch their recognition of leadership of the Turkish Cypriots from Denktas to Talat. The international community therefore will see Eroglu as obstructionist, and therefore, he will be sidelined... (at least until the 'presidential' election is held. If Eroglu wins that...)

President Talat has only 8 months left in office, Eroğlu is looking to take over so kiss any negotiations goodbye he dont even speak English.

One round of supposed negotiations finishes only to be reopened by a new one. Nothing will change.

"""""The solution parameters of the National Unity Party are in harmony with those of Turkey, Dervis Eroglu has emphasized. """"
Yet he goes on to say : "his party is in favour of any kind of solution to the Cyprus problem which foresees the existence of two peoples, two states and two democracies on the island. ""
Further on is this masterpiece :""""The full realization of human rights and freedoms is a primary goal ""

My own opinion is that the biggest catastrophy to befell the T/C people was the elcetion results which were won by none other thn the settlers .
Eroglu clearly has not the interests of the Cypriot people at heart , he throws scorn at the overwhelming majority of Cypriots who consider Turkey as the occupyier , just as the International community does , of the northern part of Cyprus, by confirming his credentials as a puppet of the Turkish occupying army.

Maybe he convinced some of the T/Cs and certainly all of the settlers , that recognition is just around the corner , he believes in that I'm certain , but surely a man that has as his political ideology the mentality of the Grey wolves can not be taken seriously by the T/Cs . Recognition by the International community will never materialize since such an act would be totaly in contradiction to all UN resolutions which define the presence of the Turkish army as an occupying power. The T/Cs will suffer in isolation as a direct result of Turkeys policy in altering the demographics of the occupied part so that the overwhelming majority are not Cypriots but mainland Turks . For as long as their survival is depended upon the "generosity" of Turkey the settlers will tow the line.
We are no longer negotiating a solution with our T/C compatriots , the negotiations will be with the settlers and their masters. A massive blow to the cause of unification of our island.

So much has been made of the meeting of Mr Talat with Hilary Clinton , so much for so little , he was met as the leader of the T/C people , the Americans know the score , our Cypriot brotherhood in the States makes sure of that . Mr Talat must surely recognise that any solution that is primarily aimed at satisfying Turkeys position will never be accepted by the Cypriot majority . Mr Eroglu does not recognise this fundamental reality as his statement above makes clear.
