Boycott "The Telegraph" Newspaper? What more?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Only 20 000 will die GR, that is our ceiling, for we will press the button then to stop the war which we started ... remember? What a moron!

Bananiot, we get 150 Russian tourists, but they make up for 300,000 British in terms of national revenue, since their average spending is almost twice that of the British. Same holds true for Germans, Swiss, Austrians and some of the Scandinavians. We have yet to explore large markets such as Poland and Romania, and even China. Last year's contribution of tourism to the national product amounted to 11.5% of the GDP. This year it will be lower than that. Rest sure we will survive if we lose the British market, but answer this question for me, who will stop 200,000 desperate and agree refugees, who will see the prospect of losing their 75 billion Euro worth of properties in the occupied Cyprus, from storming into the bases and leveling them out, if they see the UK recognizing as legitimate the existence of their properties’ usurper? What will the British do, start shooting the masses, to defend the "boarders" of their bases? How many will they kill, 100, 200, 1,000, before the rest will get to them? What will happen, when the rest will get to them?

P.S. Did't Makarios try this after 1963 when Russia was the mighty Soviet Union?

Why risk a clash with the west? They (Russians) will be officially invited by the RoC, an independed UN and EU sovereign state. The 1960 treaties, which prohibit Cyprus from taking such act without the consent of the "guarantor" powers, will be nullified and become invalid from the moment Britain will violate it, as Turkey does, by recognizing a separate entity in Cyprus. I can assure you the Russians will very happily jump on the opportunity of having a naval and an air force base in Cyprus, and we even have the basic installations ready in Pafos.

Anyhow, all this discussion is just a hypothetical exercise of all the possible consequences a British recognition of a separate entity in the north will have. I am sure the UK, not only will never take such a step, but to the contrary they will want to be seen to be the first to block it in the UN security council, even before the Russians, the French and Chinese will do so. They are not that stupid!

Really, I should say that I cannot believe you are uttering these things Kifeas. To expect 200 000 angry people to storm the Bases because they have lost their properties for ever is utterly unrealistic and totally improbable. These things do not happen, even in fairy tales.

It is also amusing to think that British tourists can be replaced with Romanians and Chinese tourists. Last time Chinese "tourists" came, 80% of them failed to turn up for the return journey. I think the police are still looking for them. Lilikas, who brought them, making a big thing out of it, was looking for a place to hide at the time.

The Russians did save the day for us last year, but from what I hear, they are now tempted by Turkey too. The Germans and the Scandinavians make up only a small proportion of the incoming tourists.

The Brits have supported our tourist industry during dire times and we will suffer a great deal if we lose them.

As for offering bases to the Russians, one can only smile with disbelief at this suggestion. Our future lies exclusively with the club Klerides, Vassiliou and Simitis put us in in May 2004. You are seriously asking us to switch allegiance and embrace the Russians whom you probably think more capable of helping us in our encounter with Turkey. Of course, Turkey is more important to Russia than Cyprus and the sooner we realise how minute we are, the less rubbish we will talk.

I think it will pay to wait till the document devised by President Christofias and the leader of the TC's Mr Talat, to see whats on offer ........ some compromise from both sides is essential .

don't make me post the numbers again. The Brit holidaymakers can go to hell, it will only affect a few of Bananiots fellow famagustian hoteliers who have single handedly helped us out of the tourism dependency thanks to their pricing shenanigans.
