Then we all know Grivas' hatred for the 'commies' by his 'heroics' in the Greek civil war as an efficient 'commie' hunter. I suppose that being labelled an AKEL member was a sentence of death as far as Grivas and his men were concerned.

No Deniz.

I am certain EOKA had better things to do than to hunt down 200,000 innocent "commies" in Cyprus.

However, anyone that was caugth undermining the EOKA leadership and thus undermining the struggle, had to be dealt with and "The Cypriot" knows this only too well and that is why he has conceded defeat and gone off in a huff to wash his moustakia and vraka...

AKEL members were also tracked down in 1974, during the 'N. Sampson' era coup. They were still on the wrong side I suppose. So much for free expression. Its a terrifying thought. Whether true or not, mentioning these will no doubt put the wind up separatists who will simply ask, 'if they do that to their own people what hope have we got?' Then you cant blame them for wanting to split the island into two.

All Makarios loyalists were potential targets for the coupists. Makarios loyalists were not AKEL supporters. AKEL supporters were only coalition partners with the Makarios loyalists which later became the DIKO Party in Cyprus.

So most of the older members of the DIKO Party would have been the Junta's main target. They were not communist but were mostly centrist right wing.

Just to get some things straight, there was a large number of AKEL supporters that were EOKA fighters as well. Enough with this story that AKEL and EOKA were at war.

I know there were DT.

It is the Cypriot that is trying to say that EOKA had extreme ideologies resulting in the 23 AKEL members opposing the leadership.++Please read my post again, because I did not say that EOKA and AKEL were at war.

Wasn't talking about you Paphiti, was reffering to the 100's of posts beforehand.

 Yiasou leventi.

BTW, Apoel really copped it against the Paphites last week..

The cup is on the way to Paphos DT. :D

Let us get anomalia out of the way and seal the championship and we might just let you have it. I prefer Peyia to play in UEFA rather than AEL or Apollon.

The progressive party of the working people (AKEL): AKEL is descended from the Communist Party of Cyprus, which held its first congress in 1926 but was declared illegal by British authorities in 1931. Constituted in 1941, AKEL absorbed the Communist party but was itself declared illegal from 1955 to 1959. As a communist party based on the principles of Marxism-Leninism, AKEL works for a fully independent, sovereign, non-aligned, demilitarized, democratic and federal Cyprus and for socialism. The General Secretary of the party is Demetris Christofias. The party polled 30.5% of the vote cast in the 1991 House of Representatives election, winning 18 seats.

In my village alone (Gypsou) the EOKA thugs murdered 2 fine family men. One left 4 children and the other 5. The wife of one of the murdered emigrated to England soon afterwords in order to make ends meet. These were no collaborators of course. Their only sin, they were AKEL sympathysers, not even members.

Those that murdered them did so in the name of EOKA. They were plain murderers and in this instance EOKA acted just like all terrorists.

In this instance if thats what happened they you're right. How about the countless others that collaborated with the Brits, and were relocated to the UK for a new life? Their info led to the deaths of EOKA fighters. What were they?
