Is there a village called AIS TODOROS , Famagusta region ?

Not Ayios Theodoros but known and pronounced as Ais Todoros ,
I was at a farewell dinner last evening for my brothers daughter who , along with her husband and daughter is emigrating to Australia or rather settling in her husbands country of birth.
Amongst the family members her aunt Helen along with her husband Aydan a a 53 year old T/C who speaks fluent Greek and is called by all John !!!
Aydan was born in the village of Ais Todoros. I argued with him that the correct name must be Ais Theodoros but he insisted that the name was always Todoros.
Ant one knows of this village ?
ps.Not certain if I'm spelling his t/c name correctly !

Ay. Theodoros is spelt Aytotoro in Turkish. At least the one in Larnaca district where my grandfather was born. The gentlemans pronounciation must be a local accent of this. I think there are at least three Ay. Theodoros' in Cyprus. One in Paphos, one in Larnaca and the other Famagusta past Boghaz towards the panhandle.Any others?

I am glad that Uncle Vasos is doing well.

Pappou Milti,

The Occupied Village of Agios Theodoros, Famagusta District is Mrs Cobbett's old village.

Colloquially it is also known as Ais Todoros by the villagers and sometimes shortened further to Ais Toros.

You'll know it is not unusual for village names to shortened and bastardised by the Cys. My own Occupied Ancestral Village is sometimes called Ai Yrosis. Try finding that on a map!

Insan, off the top of my head, I can only think of one. All the others you hear of are not villages but the area where a St. George church is built.

We visited it about three years ago. A quiet backwater by-passed by the old main road up to Apostolos Andreas, not far from Bogazi, as D has said. Apart from Mrs C's Stolen Briga, the only places of interest were the empty village church (emptied of everything) and a small stone-built parade of derelict, empty shops which included the small, old village cinema.

Deniz, these two which you mention are not villages. The one is called ayios Giorgios tis Peyias and the other is Ayios Georgios Alamanou. Also Ay. Yiorgi in Larnaca etc. The actual village which I know of is the one below in the picture.
